🌞 Where Are We in the Sun’s Solar Cycle Right Now?

The Sun isn’t as steady as it looks.
About every 11 years, it goes through a natural rhythm — building from quiet conditions to a stormy peak and back again. Scientists track this pattern by counting sunspots, dark magnetic regions on the Sun’s surface.

Here’s where we stand:
We are currently in Solar Cycle 25, which began in late 2019.
The cycle reached its solar maximum phase around 2024–2025 — meaning sunspot numbers and solar storms ramped up significantly.

And right now?
We’re still in an active period, though the Sun is beginning the slow descent toward its next quieter phase (solar minimum), which won’t arrive for several more years.

What that means for us:

✨ More frequent and brighter auroras
📡 Increased chances of geomagnetic storms
🌌 Greater solar flare activity
🛰️ More satellite and radio disruptions during strong events

If you’ve seen headlines about the Northern Lights appearing farther south than usual — that’s solar maximum at work.

The Sun may be 93 million miles away, but its cycle affects everything from space weather to the glow in our night skies.

This tree has grown across the driveway and sprouted more trees off the top.

This might be my favorite photo ever 😍 I stayed out in front of the Tree Of Life to watch the Perseids meteor shower ALL NIGHT, and this was the result 🙌 The Andromeda Galaxy, along with some huge meteors makes this scene absolutely perfect! This trees incredible resilience helps inspire me to spend the hours necessary out in the dark to capture the shots I need. Every time I see it I am reminded that we too can endure and overcome anything that tries to bring us down.

This photo means so much to me because I admire the Tree of Life so much. This tree continues to amaze. Year after year, it continues hanging on to the cliff by only its roots, remaining suspended in mid-air seemingly against all odds. Fighting the relentless tides, and erosion from a creek that flows directly beneath it, it is a wonder how this tree continues to survive. For me, and many others, it is a symbol of endurance, tenacity, and resilience.

This was technically after the deemed "peak" of the meteor shower, but I think I saw even more shooting stars than the actual peak 🤩 There is still time to watch and you'll get to see plenty of shooting stars for atleast another week!!
