Welcome to the Chong Wa School, the oldest Chinese school in Washington state, proudly located in Seattle's Chinatown at the historic Chong Wa Hall.

Originally an opera house built in 1929 that housed classrooms in its basement at that time. Operated by the Chong Wa Benevolent Association until 1973 then later transferred to the Chong Wa Education Society, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. 🌟 TCML–Chong Wa School L1 Students at the Wing Luke Museum!
Our Level 1 Mandarin class’s students spent Sunday afternoon (3/29/2026) exploring the Wing Luke Museum and learning about the early Chinese and Asian American immigrant experience. A meaningful afternoon of history, culture, and connection ✨

Highlights of the visit:
• Students reflected on how immigrants-built community in tight living spaces
• The historic grocery store brought our Mandarin vocabulary to life
• Many students expressed real empathy for the challenges immigrants faced, from language barriers to discrimination

Follow up after the visiting in class: Students have vocabulary review, short Mandarin reflections, and a discussion on how language shape’s identity.

Due to snow and the risk of black ice on the roads, all Youth Program classes from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM on March 14, Saturday are canceled for the safety of our students and families.

🎉 Celebration of the Lunar New Year Brings Community Together at TCML Chong Wa School 🎉

TCML-Chong Wa School welcomed more than one hundred students, families, and community members on February 28, 2026, for a vibrant Lunar New Year Celebration filled with cultural performances, hands on activities, and festive traditions. The event transformed the Chong Wa Grand Hall into a lively gathering space where attendees of all ages experienced the richness of Mandarin language learning and Traditional culture.

The afternoon was filled with cultural performances and hands on activities, including:
• Vocal & special dance performances
• On site horse painting
• DIY New Year crafts & lantern making
• Gold Ingot Relay Race
• Taiwan Travel Information Expo with giveaways
• Prize drawings and more!
We were honored to welcome TECO Director General May Lin, OCAC Culture Center Director Wei-zan Wang, Mercer Island Councilmember Julie Hsieh, Newcastle Councilmember Sun Burford, and many community leaders for celebrating with us.

TCML–Chong Wa School launches Spring 2026 with a “Top Rating” from OCAC in Taiwan!

This semester welcomes 76 learners across seven classes, with nearly 10 more on the waitlist—showing strong community support and enthusiasm. Under the Chong Wa Education Society school board's leadership, TCML-Chong Wa School continues to grow as a trusted, high‑quality Mandarin learning center for Seattle’s mainstream community.

Update: Level 1 & Level 3 Class Start Date Postponed to Feb. 15

Because the Seattle Seahawks will be playing in the Super Bowl on February 8, both Level 1 and Level 3 Mandarin classes will be postponed by one week and will officially begin on Sunday, February 15, 2026. This adjustment allows students and families to enjoy the game and support the Seahawks.

🎉2025 Fall Semester Successfully Concluded!
With TCML–Chong Wa School Level 3 and Level 4 classes completing their courses this weekend, our entire Fall Semester has officially come to a perfect close.

👏 Every student gained valuable knowledge and made noticeable progress! This semester not only featured diverse teaching methods in the classroom, but some classes also stepped outside to explore Seattle’s Chinatown–International District and visited the Wing Luke Museum, enriching their learning through real-world cultural experiences.

🏫 About Us: Our school is located in Seattle’s Chinatown–International District. Our teaching philosophy emphasizes a life-oriented approach, with course design closely connected to students’ daily experiences and practical needs. We also organize “Cultural Walk” activities, guiding students through the International District to extend language learning into authentic contexts, effectively enhancing language application and learning outcomes. We are proud to have a team of professional, highly experienced instructors, equipped with modern and diverse teaching tools, and supported by a dedicated action team. Together, we strive to create a comprehensive and high-quality learning environment that meets the needs of students of all ages and backgrounds. At the same time, our center continues to uphold the long-term mission of “connecting with mainstream society, giving back to the community, and deepening community collaboration.”
