🎤 INSIDE THE LESSON 🎧 Last week, Ms. Lulu and her students dove deep into the captivating world of "Sounds of SGS"! Armed with professional Zoom Recorders, they embarked on an audio adventure, testing mics on a symphony of surfaces to discover the unique sounds they create and how they resonate in their headphones.

In this hands-on experience, they not only master the art of sound but also hone their skills in caring for audio equipment. From testing and recording to fine-tuning playback functions and evening out sound waves/levels, our students are becoming maestros of the audio realm!

On Thursday, our students engaged in MLK workshops that delved into the diverse facets of social justice. From exploring music as a catalyst for change to uncovering local landmarks that represent the rich Black history of our community. At the end, they presented their projects to the whole school!

In some places, social justice is only addressed once a year -- on MLK Day. At SGS, it's woven into the very fabric of our curriculum and community. It's not just a 3-day weekend for us; it's a daily commitment. Our students are encouraged to actively explore, question, and understand the complexities of social justice in various forms, fostering a deep sense of empathy and empowerment.

❄️Hot tips for chilly temps ❄️ Some things to note for SGS winter weather procedures:

- SGS always follows Seattle Public Schools for closures (sometimes for late starts/early dismissals)
- Best way to be informed quickly is to register for Flash Alert (an alert channel that communicates closures, delays, and emergencies)
-We understand our students come from a wide geographic area and weather may vary depending on location. Please use your own discretion about traveling in inclement weather.
-Multi-day weather interruption predicted? We'll ask students to bring laptops and school supplies home. First day, a joyous snow day. The following days, we'll continue with courses online.

Yay, snow!!!
