Today, Mr. Legel’s AP Environmental Science students built and tested solar ovens. ☀️ Lab groups competed with one another to reach the highest temperature. The competition was "heating up" this afternoon as students harnessed the power of the sun and made revisions to their designs.

Our NYHS Stem Team recently attended the CIJE Innovation Summit in East Rutherford, NJ along with representatives from other Jewish day schools across the U.S. and beyond.
Our team submitted four entries, and brought home two hard earned awards including two prizes for best engineering! One of the winning projects, Aleph Learn, is a device to help older Hebrew language learners identify Hebrew letters. And the other, Grid64, is an interactive chess board that recreates the joy and excitement of playing a computer on a real physical chess board!
The most impressive work happened in the run up to the competition. Teams worked late into the night finalizing the functionality of their prototypes, polishing pitches and rising to the next inevitable challenge in the pursuit of creating new things.
Special shout out to our amazing STEM coach Ariela DeFunis and trusty team chaperone Jay Schreiber! Go Lions!
