The Evans Student Coalition is excited to announce that the 2022 Summit on Race & Equity in Public Policy is coming up on Saturday, April 9 from 10 am - 2:30 pm, to be held over Zoom. The Evans Student Coalition is made up of the identity-based student interest groups at Evans and its annual Evans Summit on Race and Equity in Public Policy provides a space for community members, practitioners, and students to deeply engage with ideas of race, equity, and social justice in the public sphere.
The Summit also seeks to address gaps in Evans curriculum, and this yearโs summit will therefore provide a space for internal reflection and collective healing, where participants will develop tools to build resilience and tend to their mental health when engaged in antiracist and equity-centered work. They will also hear from our keynote speaker Bookda Gheisar, Senior Director of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion at the Port of Seattle as well as have the opportunity to attend workshops on โBuilding spirit and strengthening our health in activismโ and โRACISM| UNHOUSED HUMANS|PUBLIC POLICYโ.

The Evans Summit on Race & Equity in Public Policy is excited to announce another workshop for attendees on Saturday, February 13! Join Glenda Duldulao and Carolyn Solitaire for Being True to Self While Riding the Waves of Bureaucracy: Creating a Healing Space for BIPOC Working in the Public Sector.
Working in government can be rewarding and very challenging. Presenters Carolyn Solitaire and Glenda Duldulao are two extraordinary Womxn of Color public servants, born in two different generations and with different thoughts about remaining in government versus seeking other opportunities. In this Workshop, Carolyn and Glenda will share real talk about their experiences and challenges of working in government, and what they've done to be true to themselves and their communities while working in the sea of government bureaucracy.

GLENDA DULDULAO is a 1.5 generation Filipino/Ilokano from the northern province of the Philippines. She grew up in a working class family and working class community in Kalihi, Oahu of urban Honolulu, the largest and most densely populated area in the Hawaiian Islands. Her current home is Tacoma, WA, land of the Puyallup Tribe.
Glenda is the first in her family to graduate high school, go on to college to obtain a Bachelors in Family Resources and Masters degree in Urban and Regional Planning. For more than 10 years, Glenda has engaged in co-creating spaces where people can come together, usually over soul-filled food, to remember and share stories of ancestors, traumas, struggles, experiences of displacement, belonging, and resilience. It is in these spaces that windows of relationalities are created allowing us to respect each otherโs humanity and move towards building a community that allows us to live our full selves.
Working in the public sector, both in state and city government for more than 5 years, Glenda seeks to find, and if not create spaces, that allows her and invites others to be their true selves, while being in a sea of bureaucracy. She is currently working to co-establish City of Tacoma government's Asian Pacific Islander Affinity Group.
CAROLYN SOLITAIRE is a lifetime resident of Tacoma and a graduate of the Tacoma School District #10. I have a family of 6 and a strong love for life. Her belief is: โDO THE BEST YOU CAN UNTIL YOU KNOW BETTER, THEN WHEN YOU KNOW BETTER DO BETTER.โ

LARISA BENSON: After a full career working inside government and teaching at the Evans School of Governance and Public Policy, Larisa launched the start-up Government Joy Network. GovJoy is a group of community practitioners reimagining and rejuvenating what it means to govern in ways that contribute to the wholeness of our collective humanity, accessing the joy and grit that lies at the heart of a public servant by softening the hard edges of institutional culture.
Larisa specializes in creative facilitation and coaching. She believes that creative expression of our stories and rhythmic sound and movement are essential healing practices necessary to sustain the work of realizing justice in our hearts and bodies.
ALANA BELLE: A Priestess of People, Alana has been granted the purpose of living a life dedicated to service. Whether in a classroom or a one-on-one mentoring session, she listens with empathy and compassion. Lovingly bearing witness to others' stories, Alanaโs intuition guides her to the essence of who a person is, what their gifts are, and what challenges they have. Meditation, mindfulness, and breathing techniques support the Interior Design (Spiritual, Mental, Emotional, and Physical aspects) of the beings she works with.
Through Spiritual mentors, self-teaching, and more traditional forms of education, Alana has gained a diverse body of knowledge that informs her work in the world. While grateful for all that sheโs learned and yet to discover, she knows that true wisdom resides within. Alanaโs mission is to help human beings delve into the most sacred of texts: themselves.
Currently, Alana works as a trainer/mentor at GovJoy.
