The Blue Turtles kids explored Lake Union by kayak to check out the variety of house boats. The age of the highlights ranged from 1912 to 2010. Most of the +\- 500 Seattle houseboats are from the Depression, still floating on big logs. One of their favorites is the 650sf, 1930 yellow house currently on the market for $2.75m. 😳. They’ve each designed their own floating home that they will build in the studio next week!

Car designs from our last kids studio workshop. A green, green electric pod, a rugged Microbus, a stab at Ki-uhs and a nice, boxy sedan. Vroom-vroom!

My kid Blue Turtles are designing cars. So we explored some cool ones. They seem to like the boxy 80s designs. Guess which one is my fave!

On our latest field trip, we explored the abundance of amazing public art in the Seattle neighborhood of Fremont, the self-proclaimed Center of the Universe. (see last pic for directions) From the giant troll clutching an actual VW bug, to the seldomly noticed bronze Relics in the sidewalks, to neon on the bridge, seating along the canal, to touching the bloodied fingers on Lenin, and so many more. The kids then chose a site in the neighborhood and designed their own contribution to this eclectic collection in the Center of the Universe!

On our latest Blue Turtles teen adventures we explored idiophones - percussion instruments that make sound by striking, plucking, shaking or scraping. The kids designed and fabricated their own instruments and even had a garage band jam session! 🎶
