He moved to the United States in the year 2000 and has been living in the Seattle area since 2004. Ashish grew up in Delhi, India where he briefly practiced yoga in Elementary school and learned Sanskrit in Middle and High school. Happy to announce that I am leading my own 200 hr Yoga Teacher Training starting January. We already have a few people signed up as well!! And I am so so happy that the 2 people I wanted to be there to lead potions of it agreed to join me!! We come from different styles and training schools. Together we can provide a balanced approach as a team, while also opening up space for diversity as well as "lineages"/styles of movement. At the end of the day we are all here to actually teach yoga.

I hope to bring in my energy and playfulness and I will be there for just about all the training hours.

has an immense knowledge of anatomy among other things. She has trained extensively with and , including multiple human body dissections. She has worked extensively with athletes including a certain Seahawks quarterback who recently left Seattle. πŸ™ƒ She was the yoga lead for quite a while and I really appreciated her mindful approach. But I actually love her teaching before all of this; right since I took her class a few years ago, teaching so passionately about the shoulder joint, while leading us through a flowπŸ™Œ. She now teaches a flow which can be labeled hatha or vinyasa depending on perspective.
Ultimately, it's all a perspective, no? 😁

has trained extensively in India, including a Master in yoga. She will bring in her knowledge about the kriyas, pranayama and a lot more aspects we don't typically come across in most US trainings. I love that she teaches with a smile and is willing to explore different styles and can teach a vinyasa/yin/hatha/meditation class thanks to her exploration and extensive training. All with a smile.

Together we hope to bring a training that is respectful to the yogic traditions, while not taking ourselves too seriously. Because at the end of the day, it is about you. Your chance to dive deeper within, on your own journey. Connecting to yourself and what style appeals to you the most in your current practice. Because Yoga is so much more than the shapes(asana). And connecting within, helps us to really connect outwards, in a whole new way.

We will be leading the training in one of the most calm and serene studios in Seattle. It's a space that screams(pun intended) mindfulness. All the bolsters. Blankets. Props. Gongs. Bowls. Dedicated meditation classes. Daily sound baths. Restorative and Yin. And an incredibly knowledgeable and supportive owner/management.

We are holding a free class and an open house on Nov 19th at 1:30pm. Feel free to join us. Even if it is just to take the free class.πŸ™We would love to see you

Here's a pic of what I look like these days. Contrary to popular belief, I'm not always upside down 😁

How's life? Couldn't be better! I am teaching across 6 studios in the Seattle metro area. About 12-15 classes a week.
I'm leading a 200 hr YTT starting in Jan, with the help of 2 amazing humans.

I'm also leading a yoga retreat to Panama in April. The last retreat there was LIT. So definitely excited for the one next year on my birthday. 😁

Some questions I hear regularly
Do I get tired teaching so much?
I don't. I absolutely love every moment of leading a class. There are days I teach 4, occasionally it has become even 5. I feel as energized teaching the last as I did the first. But of course, I am not saying you should. Or "this the way". This is just me. I do get tired at the end of the day. πŸ˜…

Do I get time to practice/take classes?
My self-practice is usually shorter- like 10-30 minutes. More to play with certain poses or transitions. Or some yin poses a couple times a week. But I do take at least 4-5 classes a week. How do I do that? Well, I don't wait to find the "right" class. I take them when I am out already, or I go out and take 2. There is always something to learn, whether from brand new teachers or my favorite ones. Moving makes me feel alive. It gets me present.

Do I miss the tech world?
I don't. I love doing what I do. Yoga changed how I lived my life. It changed how much I love myself. I teach to share that feeling.

Don't I have bad days?
I have bad moments, yes. I just choose to let them go. And it is a practice. A practice I have gotten better at with time. We tend to hang on to bad moments. They become bad days or weeks. More often than not, we have a choice. A choice to let go. Get present. Feel our aliveness. Celebrate our aliveness. And no, it's been a while since I had a bad day.

Watch this space- I plan to share more regularly in the next few. πŸ€—πŸ™πŸ½

We had the most amazing time in this beautiful place with the most welcoming people. Everything was well thought through, from food choices for all dietary restrictions, to the excursions. It gave us an opportunity to connect with the power and beauty of nature. And connect within. That in turn opened us up to each other, making us feel like family, even though most of us hadn't met each other before. β™₯️
I'm excited to be headed back here next year April 23-29. You can find more details on my website and sign up from there. Link is in my profile. And it's simple - www.ashish.yoga
You can see some of the moments I captured in the highlights on my profile. 😊

P. S. I will be celebrating my birthday there and I invite you to come celebrate yourself ❀️

For most of my life I have waited. Waited to feel loved. Waited to be successful. Waited to reach a certain weight. Waited for an event. Waited for a vacation. Waited for a pat on the back. Waited for someone to change. Waited to prove myself to my detractors. Waited to prove myself to my loved ones. And the list goes on.

And it has not been easy. We get into this endless cycle of waiting.
Mostly waiting to appreciate life. Waiting to appreciate ourselves.

What the last few years and my practice have taught me is that there is nothing to wait for. I have learned to live every moment. And not just live, but really celebrate it. And to celebrate myself.

Celebration is a word we restrict to events and milestones. We carry so much guilt around celebrating something the society doesn't recognize. But we don't really need that affirmation to celebrate ourselves. We don't need to wait for a party, a milestone or any external stimulus.
Every moment of this life is a celebration....of being alive, of being able to feel the navrasas(9 emotions). Knowing we have the choice to choose joy in any given moment.

πŸ“·candid thanks to

Just getting present! πŸ€™πŸ½πŸ˜
Leading the retreat with really got me present. The theme of our retreat was Embodied Vitality, and we were lucky and grateful to have a group to give in to that fully!
It's an amazing feeling to present to one's "aliveness" and all that is possible from there!
What gets you really present?

I love playing with inversions on the beach. The sand, while messy, can help provide the cushion to let go of some of the fear. I remember doing headstands and crow in Bali in 2015, the year I started my asana practice. And last few years it's been handstands.
There was a lot of struggle with "sticking" it in this pic on our Hawaii trip, which happened right after my bout with Covid. This pic was a candid thanks to my mom 😁
But of course I still had a lot of fun.

Inversions and arm balances are a great way to be in play, letting go of expectations. Discovering how judgment and comparisons show up. Working on letting them go. And that's likely one of the reasons they are a big part of the yoga asana practice.

Now here comes the pitch 😁 - If you are looking for more play in your life, what better way than to join and I for a yoga retreat in Panama this May!!
More details on the link in my profile. You can learn to surf, ride a horse, do SUP yoga, meditate to the sounds of nature, enjoy 6 days of wonderful wholesome food and more....Reach out to us for any questions.

Been seeing quite a few Paris posts recently so decided to go "relive" the tour of this amazing city in 2019, before the world changed.
Couldn't make up my mind on B&W vs color. Would love to hear which one you prefer! B&W or Color?

Grateful for where I am! I know its much easier to be there where I am currently in life. But what's changed is how easy it is to access this feeling. I had a horrible car accident a couple of years back with my car crushed between a semi truck and an SUV and the first feeling that came to me was gratefulness. For a long time that first feeling would have been anger or frustration, and I would have been lost in the "what ifs" and the "why me's".
This is where the practice of yoga has come in. Yes handstands are a part of yoga. But it is accessing that feeling of gratefulness no matter where you land up in your practice/life that makes it yoga. Not the "perfect" alignment or the hold. And that's true for any of the shapes/asanas. 😊

"Choose Happy" - saw this phrase in a pic on IG today from my friend
Good reminder that it is a choice most of the time. Open yourself to a little lightness and a little more playfulness and all the colors of life start to show up 😁

That's what I was doing above in Washington Square Park when took this pic of me while taking street pics in NYC. πŸ™πŸ½

What do you take too seriously? And where can you choose happy?

My self practice has become my handstand practice off late. And I'm having fun with it. It's a pose which challenges me. I have to become an "observer". I have to let go of judgement. I have to let go of attachment. Just observing why a given day/surface/clothes make it easier or harder.
I am striving for straighter lines, longer holds etc and yet I am very content with where I am, even on a day I can't get up at all.
I've been told letting go of ujjayi breathing will make it easier. But if it is my primary practice on a day, then I want some more time with that breathwork. So I chose to keep it. There is no one way to do any of it. Find what gets you "alive" and choose to feel your "aliveness", even if it is for a few minutes a day.
I am enjoying my journey. The journey of my poses and the journey of my life.
