In the Changemakers class, students focus on creating positive change in the community. Right now, students are trying to make the streets around L-Dub safer. To do that, they are asking the City of Seattle to add more crosswalks, stop signs, and school zone speed limit signs in the streets surrounding our school. If they get enough support, SDOT will come here to look around.

Thank you to everyone who helped make our 25th Anniversary Silver Celebration so special. From our incredible alumni speakers to our generous sponsors and in-kind donors, and of course, everyone who showed up to help us celebrate!
Check out our 25th Anniversary Retrospective for a glimpse into the past quarter century of L-Dub magic:
The seventh grade performed an original version of the beloved story of Dorothy and her adventure through the magical land of Oz. With lots of singing and dancing and a few characters you might not know about, this fun-filled show brought creative energy and imagination to L-Dub. Congratulations to our seventh grade class on a job well done!
Happy Pi Day! L-Dub celebrated Pi Day with a day full of pi-themed activities including creating a pi chain, calculating pi, a pi-in-motion activity that involved building cars to launch down a ramp, and a pi recitation contest where the winners from each grade got to pie their teachers in the face!
In 7th grade Science, students dissected pig hearts as part of an exercise unit focused on how the muscular, cardiovascular, and respiratory systems work together! One section was joined by Physician Assistant Danny Satow from UW Valley Medical Center. She helped to point out structures in the heart and shared her expertise. Students noticed all the different types of heart structures we’ve been studying in class, felt the difference between the two sides’ ventricular walls, and worked to map the pathway of the blood through the chambers, valves, and vessels.
This week students celebrated Love Dub with secret Cupid activities including acrostic poems, funny cards, locker donations, and a riddle reveal.
While 6th and 7th grades had conferences last week, 8th grade gave back to their community through days of service field trips. Students explored the Northwest African American Museum, volunteered with Seward Park Audubon Center clearing blackberry bushes from a field, spent time caulking, painting, and cleaning tiny homes at the Hope Factory, and visited Wing Luke Museum.
Service Learning spent time at the Hope Factory this trimester painting murals on the exterior walls of tiny homes! This week they put the finishing touches on their murals and finished some trim work.
This week in 8th-grade science, students dissected cow eyes as part of a unit about light. Students identified the different parts of the eye and learned how they work together to help us see. Students should be proud of pushing themselves outside of their comfort zones.
Are you working in a STEAM field? Do you live in the Seattle area? Are you interested in mentoring middle school girls as they ideate, create, and present innovative ideas during a three-day event?
We are just two weeks away from Girls Who Tech Pitch Weekend, on February 9th-11th, and are still recruiting field experts to work directly with students on STEAM projects. Passionate and driven mentors are a key component of Girls Who Tech Pitch Weekend, fostering leadership and entrepreneurship to strengthen our community and showcase students’ potential. Plus, it's a great networking opportunity!
If you are interested in serving as a mentor at Girls Who Tech Pitch Weekend, reach out to [email protected] or follow this link: https://www.lwgms.org/community/community-initiatives
This week, 6th grade science students dissected owl pellets as part of their populations and ecosystems unit. Students collected data on the types of bones they found in their pellets and next week they will analyze the data to try to determine what type of owl produced their pellet.
Last weekend, a group of L-Dub students, teachers, and parents spent a day snowshoeing! The group enjoyed walking on several feet of newly fallen snow, observed and identified animal tracks, and indulged in trail-side hot chocolate!
Last week, L-Dub 6th graders (along with nine visiting 5th graders) walked to the Beacon Hill branch of The Seattle Public Library during ELA class. Students got to hear from the Teen Librarian, Ms. Wendy, participate in a scavenger hunt, and check out books!
L-Dub will be hosting a Girls Who Tech Pitch Weekend from February 9th - 11th, 2024, and we would love to see your student in attendance. During this weekend girls in grades 5-8 from a wide range of both public and private institutions across Seattle, will work to create and present innovative ideas with the guidance of mentors excelling in their fields. Mentors might include experts like engineers, scientists, biologists, web designers, and more.
