👣 Welcome to the world, little one! 🎉
This sweet boy was welcomed earthside through a planned cesarean surrounded by so much love and anticipation from his parents.
Even with a carefully made plan, birth can still hold unexpected twists and challenges, and this day carried some really hard moments alongside the joy. But through it all, these parents met each moment with so much love for their baby and for each other.
Not every birth unfolds the way we imagine it will, but beautiful moments can still exist right alongside the hard ones. Watching these parents step into their new roles was truly so special.
Little one, you are so deeply loved 🤍

👣 Welcome to the world, little one! 🎉
This first time mama poured so much intention into preparing for a low intervention, unmedicated hospital birth. She chose what she felt was the best fit for her goals, surrounded herself with support, took childbirth education classes, hired a doula, and trained so thoughtfully for the experience ahead.
So when rising blood pressures led to a recommendation for induction at 37 weeks, it felt heartbreaking at first. She worked hard to give her body time, not realizing just how ready it already was.
After her second dose of cervical ripener, her water broke and shorty after labor hit like a freight train. There was no slow build up, no easing into contractions. Her body locked into rhythm and absolutely flew. Less than two hours after her water breaking, before anyone including the hospital staff could fully process what was happening, she delivered her baby on the hospital floor just as I walked through the door.
And somehow, even with such an unexpected turn of events, she still got the birth she had hoped for. Low intervention. Unmedicated. Powerful. Instinctive. Fast and furious in the most unbelievable way.
One moment it felt like all her plans were slipping away and the next she had her baby in her arms before she could barely even blink.
Birth be wild like that sometimes 🤍

One of my clients shared her birth story on Mother’s Day and it was simply too powerful not to reshare here too. Thank you for allowing me to share your testimony and a glimpse into the strength, surrender, endurance, and faith that surrounded Malakai’s birth. It was such an honor to walk alongside you both in this sacred season ❤️
This story moved me deeply when I first lived it alongside them, and it still moves me now reading her words again.
📸 and Doula: Me!
This is her story: I’ve had two beautiful months of motherhood to process this story, and Mother’s Day feels like the right day to share it. I know birth stories can carry both joy and grief depending on someone’s experience, and I share this with gratitude and tenderness for every mother’s journey. With that said, here is the overview of my positive, faith-filled birth story:
On Friday, March 6th, I began labor at 3:30am. We had prayed for labor to start in the early morning and for him to be out by dinner time, which he was… just two days later. God has a sense of humor. Throughout pregnancy, I felt God calling me to train hard for birth. For 9 months, I was more disciplined with exercise and nutrition than I’d ever been in my life. I researched, prepared, and did everything I could to give myself the best possible chance at a healthy baby and a positive, natural, out-of- hospital birth. And of course, I hoped for an easier labor. Looking back now, God wasn’t preparing me for an easier labor, He was preparing me for endurance, and for that I’m so grateful. [CONTINUED IN COMMENTS]

👣 Welcome to the world, little one! 🎉
You made your arrival on the only snowy day we saw in Seattle this winter, which somehow made everything feel even more peaceful and still.
Your mama carried herself through labor with such calm and steadiness that even as her body was doing deep, powerful work, it all unfolded so peacefully. When we realized how close you were, there was a moment of shared surprise and so much joy in the room.
She trusted her body, stayed connected through movement, and spoke up for what she needed with such quiet confidence. And your dad right there beside her, steady and present through it all.
It was beautiful to witness first time parents step into this so naturally, working together, trusting the process, and meeting you with so much love.
You are so deeply loved already 🤍

👣 Welcome to the world, little one! 🎉
This birth will always hold a special place in my heart as my 100th.
This incredible mama stepped into this experience after a big season of transition, moving her family across the country just weeks before meeting their baby. As a third time mom preparing for her second VBAC, she carried a deep trust in her body and a desire to let labor begin in its own time.
At 9 days past her due date, plans shifted and an induction was chosen. And yet, once things began, her body and baby moved in beautiful alignment. Labor picked up quickly and intensely, and she met it with such strength and steadiness.
Her baby arrived before the epidural could even take effect, and she handled every moment with courage and grace. It was truly incredible to witness.
And now, after welcoming two daughters, their family has a sweet baby boy in their arms.
You did something amazing, mama. What a joy it was to stand beside you 🤍

👣 Welcome to the world, little one! 🎉
There is something so powerful about a first time mama stepping into the unknown of birth with deep trust in her body and the process.
First labors often take time. Even though the body was beautifully designed for this, it can take a while to find its rhythm. And this mama embraced that season with so much patience and intention. Through her long early labor, she stayed grounded, resting, nourishing, and hydrating, preparing herself for the work ahead.
When labor truly picked up, she met each wave with both courage and surrender. It took days of steady work to help baby find an ideal position and for her body to move into active labor, but her strength never wavered.
Watching her stay connected to her goal of an unmedicated birth, and seeing the her husband supporting her, was just breathtaking.
Such a beautiful beginning for this sweet baby boy 🤍
There is nothing wrong with birthing your baby in a hospital.
But the environment matters more than most realize.
A laboring body is designed to respond to safety, calm, and privacy.
This is because it is also designed to protect the baby.
When a woman feels observed, interrupted, or unsure, her body can interpret that as a signal that it is not quite time yet to bring her baby earthside.
Labor can slow or even stall.
When she feels safe and undisturbed, oxytocin flows more freely.
The body can continue the work it already knows how to do.
It is absolutely possible to have a physiological birth in the hospital.
But depending on your goals, where you choose to give birth really does matter.
When you arrive, you are often stepping into a new space with bright lights, unfamiliar faces, questions, monitors, and transitions.
Even when everyone has the best intentions, it is still a major shift that can affect your body’s labor hormones.
Timing your arrival can make a big difference.
Arriving too early can sometimes slow things down as your body adjusts.
Arriving well into active labor often allows your body to stay in its rhythm, even if things feel more intense.
This is where advocacy and support matter so much.
Having someone with you, like a doula, who understands your birth goals and preferences can help you feel safe and supported laboring at home for as long as possible.
They can help you read the rhythm of your labor and discern when it is time to go in.
They can help create and protect your space once you arrive.
They can help limit unnecessary interruptions.
They can gently guide communication so you can stay focused, grounded, and connected to what your body is doing.
Your body was created with intention.
And in the right environment, it knows exactly how to bring your baby into the world 🤍

👣 Welcome to the world, little one! 🎉
This birth began with uncertainty and pressure to change course, but slowly unfolded into something steady, powerful, and redemptive.
After a gentle nudge to encourage labor, her body took over and we were moving right along. With thoughtful, steady advocacy, she was able to avoid further interventions and her body did beautifully.
And then came the work of 4 hours of steady, determined pushing where this mama never lost sight of what she was capable of. She showed incredible resilience.
It was also a powerful reminder that where you choose to give birth matters. The policies, the environment, and the support around you can shape your experience in meaningful ways. Finding a place that aligns with your values can make a big difference in how supported and confident you feel as your birth unfolds.
What could have felt overwhelming became something empowering. One of the most meaningful parts of this work is witnessing how, even in spaces that do not always feel aligned, a supported and informed mother can still have a beautiful birth experience.
These parents did such an incredible job bringing their baby into the world 🤍

👣 Welcome to the world, little one! 🎉
What a gift it was to be there as this sweet family welcomed their second son into the world.
This little guy made his mama work for it, just like his big brother did, but once again she met every part of labor with such incredible strength and steady determination. From movement suggestions to every decision along the way, she leaned in with so much grace. And in the end, he was born right into the water, just like his big brother.
It was the second birth I attended that same day, and even after being up all night, there was no way I was going to miss being there for this family again.
There is something so special about being invited back to support a family a second time. To witness their love grow, to see these parents step into welcoming another son, and to watch this mama birth with such power was truly an honor.
I love this family dearly, and I am so thankful I got to welcome this precious boy earthside.
