The life cycle of a caterpillar, or butterfly, consists of four main stages: egg, larva (caterpillar), pupa (chrysalis), and adult butterfly. It begins when a butterfly lays an egg on a suitable plant. The egg hatches into a larva, commonly known as a caterpillar, which primarily focuses on feeding and growing. As it consumes leaves, the caterpillar undergoes several molts, shedding its skin multiple times. Once it reaches a certain size, it enters the pupal stage by forming a chrysalis. Inside the chrysalis, the caterpillar undergoes a remarkable transformation called metamorphosis, reconstituting its body into that of an adult butterfly. Finally, the adult butterfly emerges, ready to mate and lay eggs, continuing the cycle.
