"Be the best version of you."
Good advice.
With the constant barrage of social media posts showing myriad accomplishments of friends, acquaintances, and celebrities, it's not surprising that we (kids AND adults) experience feelings of being "less than" at times. We may feel awe, admiration and sincere happiness for others, but then feelings of insecurity or shame may creep in: "What's wrong with me? Why haven't I achieved the same desirable goals? I'm just not good enough."
As adults, we have more life experiences to be able to shake off these feelings and re-center our perspective. We are less likely to let these nagging doubts about our own abilities take hold of our self-concept to the point where it is debilitating. And if that anxious feeling of "inferiority" does start to take over, we have more strategies in our tool box to combat it, or we know to ask for help.
Kids, however, are just beginning their life journey and have fewer experiences to build their sense of self. They are more susceptible to developing a skewed perspective of "happiness" and "success" from the messages shared by their peers and the media.
These outside influences are powerful; and as kids approach adolescence, they tend to value the opinion of their peers more than their own parents.
As a life coach for kids ages 7-12, I can serve as "back-up" when parents need reinforcement. If your hopes for your child include a strong sense of self, resiliency when faced with adversity, and a "can-do" attitude that comes from within, then I can help.
Developing a growth mindset is central to my work as a coach for children. BEFORE they hit those teenage years, it's critical to teach kids the skills they need to feel successful in the lives they choose to lead. I teach kids how to set specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound (S.M.A.R.T.) goals. Then I guide them as they practice the skills needed to attain their goals. I'm there to help kids embrace the learning opportunities when they experience failure. If kids are given a chance to fall and then keep going to reach their goals, they gain confidence to be the best version of themselves.
That's true SUCCESS.

This stunning mosaic can be found at Dakota Place Park in West Seattle. I felt like it deserved its own post for a few reasons:
1. For arts' sake! It's beautiful. 😍🌈
2. To remind people that my in-person coaching services can be just about anywhere in West Seattle that a client is comfortable with: your family's home; a quiet, reserved study room at a library; or at a park with outdoor seating! 🏠🏫🪵
3. To reflect on the symbolism potential in this work of art. The compass might represent something internal or external that guides an individual's choices in life.... the small pieces creating the whole picture could symbolize all of the events/moments/interactions that shape our perspective of the world and perhaps even our self-concept.... the transition of colors in the spiral might represent the stages of life a person experiences, distinct but connected.
Comment with your insights!
(I could not find the artist's name. Unless it's the same person responsible for the amazing metal sculptures at the park: Lezlie Jane)

Adults and kids alike can relate to the uneasy feeling of doing something out of our comfort zone. Many of us are just fine doing what we do -- something that is familiar, that we think we're "good at". And that's all well and good if we feel content and don't want to make any big changes.
But we will never know our full potential if we limit ourselves to what is "comfortable". It's scary to take a risk. And that's where I can help!
As a life coach, my job is to help clients identify areas in their lives where they want to achieve something MORE, guide them through exercises so they can see that they truly ARE capable, chart out realistic action steps, teach the skills required for them to achieve their goals, and finally, celebrate their progress!!
Some people may wonder why in the world a KID would need a life coach?? Well, just imagine if EVERY child felt empowered to make changes in their own lives and had consistent support to realize those goals. I truly think kids make the world a better place. But they can't do it alone.

Happy Earth Day! 🌍
A parent is a kid's #1 guide through life. But we all need to lean on the support of others from time to time: extended family members, friends, neighbors, educators, and sometimes others outside of our typical "village".
As a life coach, I can join your team to support your family by working with your child on essential life skills, such as time management, organization, growth mindset, resilience, and self-regulating emotions.
Sometimes kids (especially tweens!) just need another caring adult who is *NOT* their own parent (insert teenage eye roll here 🙄) to demonstrate an approach that empowers them to make positive changes in their own life.

This book, "Your Fantastic, Elastic Brain: Stretch It, Shape It" is one of my absolute favorite resources for teaching kids about growth mindset!
During our life coaching sessions, we will talk about how kids are capable of stretching and growing their own brains and how making mistakes is one of the best ways their brain learns.
The first 12 clients to book a coaching package will receive a brain-shaped squishy/stress ball and a pencil (with an eraser for mistakes, of course)! 🤗🧠
