A throwback for Seattle U alumni. 📖

Before campus information was a click away, generations of SU students turned to the Student Handbook. From campus maps and student clubs to codes of conduct and tips for life in Seattle, these guides offer a snapshot of campus life through the years.

Seattle University Special Collections and Archives has preserved handbooks dating back to the 1940s, including these editions from the 1970s.

For Brenna Dunston, ’26, it was all about the shoes. Or the shoelaces, to be specific. 👟

The 2026 Provost’s Award recipient focused her Kinesiology thesis on how shoelace tension affects ankle mechanics and performance during basketball-specific movements. Her work reflects an interest in biomechanics and footwear that she hopes to carry into a career in athletic product development.

In this Q&A, Brenna shares more about her research, the faculty mentors who helped bring it to life and her advice for incoming Seattle University students.

We join together as a Seattle University community in remembering Sister Kathleen Sullivan, RSCJ, who died on July 24. A Religious of the Sacred Heart and educator, Sister Kathleen taught mathematics at Seattle University for 24 years. She was known for encouraging young people, particularly girls and students from underrepresented backgrounds, to pursue mathematics, science and computer science and for her leadership of the Splash! program. In recognition of Sister Sullivan’s contributions to the university, an endowed professorship was established in her name. She was also the sister of SU’s former president, William Sullivan, S.J. Her obituary can be found here: https://bit.ly/4gippCu

The university extends its condolences to Sister Sullivan’s family, friends and all who were fortunate to learn from and work alongside her. May she rest in peace.
