Beautiful weekend for some CYO soccer games! CYO is about learning new skills and teamwork. Holy Rosary offers soccer for K-8 in the fall. Some pics of our youngest Gators - go team!

Enjoy a stack of pancakes (gluten free pancakes available) with ham, bacon, pastries, coffee, tea, milk and juice served before or after Mass. Bring your appetite to the School Hall across the street from Church. Prices are $35 for families, $10 for individuals, and kids under age 5 are free.

Annual Day of Donuts was today, with over 270 participants. Mrs. Heuer, our math specialist, and Ms. Wallace, our librarian, organized this day as a reward for completing 15 hours of math and reading daily over the summer. Championed by our reading specialists, Mrs. Lewis and Ms. Corrigan as well as our home room teachers, this is a great way to beat the summer slide.

Running Gators had their first cross country practice today at Lincoln Park. They stopped for a photo op with Bruun Idun.

Our last “new” staff member to introduce is Ashlee Dollar. Ashlee stepped in last year and assisted the Preschool and for the 23/24 school year she is officially on staff! In Ashlee’s own words: I was born and raised in Spokane and attended Gonzaga University for both my undergraduate and graduate degrees. Go Zags! I have been married for 11 years and we have 3 children who attend Holy Rosary. As a family, we enjoy hiking, going to Alki Beach and are huge Mariners fans!

Today we re-introduce Grace Witsoe. Grace was with us last year student teaching in the spring and she will be in 1A working with Mrs. Davison this year.
Miss Witsoe answered the questions in her own words:
a. Where did you grow up?
West Seattle (still live here)
b. How long have you been teaching?
Not long! I am still learning to become a teacher at Washington State University and am currently completing my student teaching at Holy Rosary.
c. Family?
My parents and twin brother all still live in West Seattle which is nice. The rest of my family lives across the US
d. Hobbies?
Love to bake (cakes, cookies, brownies, etc.) I also enjoy crafting and small DIYs.
e. Favorite ice cream?
Salted caramel
f. Favorite animal?
My favorite is a Giraffe. I also enjoy Dinosaurs (even though they are extinct)!

Introducing Thalia Kuentzel, our new Spanish teacher. Senora Kuentzel joins HRS from the east coast.

In Senora Kuentzel’s own words: 1. Where did you grow up? New Jersey - my family roots go way back in Jersey and I am the last in my family to leave the state.
2. How long have you been teaching? This is my second career and I have been teaching since 2008.
3. Family? 2 great sons and a new grandson over in Japan who I will be meeting soon. And 1 tabby cat.
4. Hobbies? Love to write and have published a few poems and short stories, singing karaoke in New Jersey - the 70's and 80's songs, reading mysteries and gardening, but not pulling up the weeds.
5. Favorite ice cream? Pistachio!
6. Favorite animal? So many - my top three would be elephants, tigers and dogs. Welcome Senora Kuentzel!

Next new staff member, please welcome Victoria Finney. Ms. Finney is our new Vice Principal and with a background as a reading specialist she will also be the reading specialist for our 4th graders. From Ms. Finney:
I grew up in North Idaho and moved here in 2012 to begin my teaching career. I’ll be starting my 12th year in education. I enjoy spending time with my dog and trivia nights with my friends. Husky Deli’s Creamsicle ice cream is my favorite flavor, and I love penguins and llamas.

This week we will be introducing our new staff members. First up is our new 3A teacher, Ally Schmidt. Below are a few questions we had Miss Schmidt answer:

1. Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Bellevue, Washington and attended Catholic schools my whole life, Kindergarten- graduate school
2. Where did you teach prior to HRS?
This is my first year of teaching! Last year I student taught in a first grade classroom in Spokane, Washington.
3. Tell us about your family?
I have two wonderful parents, an older brother, older sister, and 2 dogs between the five of us.
4. What are your hobbies?
I love to bake, cook, spend time with my family and friends, and I am a HUGE Seahawks and Gonzaga Basketball fan.
5. What is your favorite ice cream flavor?
My favorite ice cream flavor is Ben and Jerry's Half Baked
6. What is your favorite animal?
My favorite animal is a giraffe

Teacher Tauna, Preschool Director, spent time with her family in Australia. She saw kangaroos and her favorite…koalas. Once back stateside, Teacher Tauna and her husband ran in the Obliteride 5k to raise money to help find a cure for cancer. Did any of our families travel abroad or run a 5k? Post in the comments.
