Founded in 1948, PSMHS is the oldest maritime historical organization in the Puget Sound region.

Puget Sound Maritime Historical Society was founded in 1948 and developed a partnership with the Museum of History and Industry in 1952 to house the society’s collections consisting of 60,000 photographs (Williamson Marine Photo Collection), documents, ship plans and artifacts. Since then PSMHS has collected items related to the maritime history of Puget Sound, now officially called the Salish Sea
