The brain is predictive and suffers from negativity bias, which is meant to keep us safe but sometimes keeps us stuck. When we truly come into the present and notice the utter beauty of life, we can override that process and tap into the amazing creative flow of life. It can feel hard, but it can be as easy as stopping to breathe.

It's that time of year where we get bombarded with messages that we are not enough. Fix yourself up like new and you'll be happy! Lose ten pounds! Get on the dating apps! Meditate every day! Get that raise! etc...

Those can all be awesome ways to grow. But...if they're not rooted in self-love and authenticity, you'll probably find yourself right back where you started this time next year.

Instead of a new you, I invite you to be more of the real you in 2022. How can you come home to yourself and be more authentic? What ways of living can you grow that are already sustaining you?

Living in Seattle, I've always appreciated the winter solstice because it signals the return of the light and longer days.

Traditionally many different cultural rituals incorporate celebration of both the darkness and the light--a powerful recognition of the importance of cycles and seasons.

Solstice is a recognition that winter is doing its powerful work, and we will see the fruit of that labor in the light of the sun when spring comes.

Our personal growth is similar. Wherever you are in your cycle, whatever season you are in, now is a time to pause, notice, and celebrate.

When we feel the call of growth or greater authenticity, it can be easy to get bogged down in what we should “do” differently.

I invite you to instead be still and meditate on who you want to “be.” Are you showing up authentically? Are you living in line with your core values? This is the real work of being human. Everything else is just chores.

Do you ever feel like you're playing a role in a script that was handed to you? It's easy to believe that we must play our part in the drama of life, but the truth is...life is improv. We get to flip the script.

What's your plot twist? Are you ready change your story?

I've got this proverb on a magnet where I see it daily. It can be so tempting to hang on to everything we ever think or feel, but why would we stay attached to something that's holding us down?

What's dragging you around? How would it feel to let go? What's stopping you? Let's talk about it.

When you decide to let go of what's dragging you, you'll be free to connect to the life you choose.

Should we practice radical self-acceptance or commit to self-improvement? The answer is yes.
