🦦 Meet 's new Interim President, Carlos Vargas!

Since arriving on campus at the beginning of this month, President Vargas has welcomed faculty, connected with new and returning students, and learned more about the research, scholarship and creative activity happening across CSUMB. As a
former researcher and first-generation college graduate, Vargas brings a deep commitment to higher education and student success.

“I recognized that I could retire from a job, but I could not retire from my passion,” he said. “My passion to help students succeed was too strong.”

New and returning students came together to soak up the excitement, connect with the community and dive headfirst into the year ahead. The Plunge is all about celebrating new beginnings and what it means to be an Otter.

A new academic year is starting at , and there’s no better way to kick it off than with Otter Days!

Over the next two weeks, Otter Days will bring students together through events, activities and traditions that help you connect, get involved and experience life at CSUMB firsthand! Whether you’re moving into your new home, finding your way around campus, meeting new friends or looking for ways to get involved, there are plenty of opportunities to start building your Raft and make the most of the beginning of the semester.

Here’s a look at some of what’s coming up this week:

📦 Aug. 18-20: Move-In.
🎓 Aug. 21: New Student Convocation, Campus Cookout and RecFest.

This week, we OFFICIALLY welcome our back to campus for another exciting academic year!

A new school year means new beginnings, new connections, new experiences and plenty of opportunities to make memories along the way. We have a FULL week of events planned to help our Otters kick off the year, including New Student Convocation, Rec Fest and SO much more!

Today, recognizes International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, honoring the Indigenous peoples, cultures, histories and communities of our region and around the world.

resides on the Indigenous homelands of the Amah Mutsun, Esselen, Ohlone, Rumsen and Salinan peoples and territories. On these rich homelands, CSUMB thrives as an institution of higher education and serves a diverse community of learners.

As our students, staff, faculty, alumni and community members explore our campus, we encourage everyone to respect the land, appreciate its natural beauty and remember that Ancestors rest beneath pathways and in less-traveled areas across campus.
