🏆 Congratulations to this year’s Best of Monterey County honorees!

For the third consecutive year, Otter women’s soccer was named Best College Sports Team. The team’s strong start to the season, including a scoreless tie against No. 2-ranked Cal Poly Pomona, reflects the talent, teamwork, and dedication behind this honor.

Additionally, Associate Professor of Psychology Renee Penalver was named Best Professor for the second year in a row. Her commitment to teaching, mentorship, and supporting students both inside and outside the classroom continues to make a meaningful impact.

📣 Exciting news on the Otter Raft!

is one of 17 Monterey County organizations selected to receive funding through the inaugural Big Sur Marathon Foundation Community Grants Program.

The $15,000 grant will support CSUMB’s Exercise is Medicine on Campus program, which offers yoga, strength training, and other healthy activities for students, faculty, and staff. Led by Campus Wellness Coordinator and Kinesiology Professor Lisa Leininger and Assistant Professor Sara Powell, the program helps advance the goals of CSUMB’s Wellness Raft by expanding access to health and wellness resources across campus.

🏆 Statistics professor receives national award!

Congratulations to Dr. Alana Unfried on receiving the American Statistical Association’s Waller Early Career Education Award!

The national award recognizes her innovative research on student and instructor attitudes toward statistics and data science, leadership in professional organizations, and sustained excellence and creativity in the classroom.

Dr. Unfried’s work includes creating website-based tools that help researchers analyze and share data about statistics and data science education. By collecting insights from institutions across the country, these tools are helping educators better understand what works and laying the foundation for continued improvement in the field.

We are proud to celebrate Dr. Unfried’s continued commitment to helping students understand the power of data in their own work and in the world around them.

This Indigenous Peoples’ Day and Farmer’s Day, honors the histories, cultures, resilience and contributions of Indigenous communities and farmers.

We recognize the Amah Mutsun, Esselen, Ohlone, Rumsen, and Salinan peoples and their enduring connections to the land on which our campus resides. We also celebrate the farmers whose dedication and hard work help nourish our communities.

Today, we are reminded of the importance of respecting the land, honoring those who care for it and uplifting the communities whose contributions continue to shape our world. 💙🦦🏡👏🌊✨🍂
