Meet the 2025, Ancestor Roundup instructors!

Cathy Andrews is returning once again as a presenter at the 44th Annual Ancestor Roundup genealogy seminar. Cathy is the Senior Librarian for Adult Services with the Salinas Public Library, where she teaches the "Genealogy Basics" series and oversees genealogy resources, services and programming. Growing up in a family where stories and details about ancestors were woven ito every family gathering, Cathy has a deep appreciation for genealogy's challenges and rewards.

Cathy will present four classes at the Ancestor Roundup on Saturday, January 25, 2025:

10:00 a.m.:
Death & Taxes
As the saying goes, nothing may be certain but death and taxes. Documents created at the time of death, like death certificates or obituaries, can provide clues for research, as can tax rolls, which are often underutilized.

11:10 a.m.:
Wills & Probate Records
When other records are hard to find, especially before about 1850, wills and probate records may help fill the gaps. Many include data about the family, relationships, and details about a person’s economic status.

1:00 p.m.:
Land Records
The availability of land was a prime attraction for immigrants to the United States. The sale or bestowing of land brings documentation with it and offers both solid data and clues for further research.

2:30 p.m.
Reading Maps
Maps are a 2-dimensional resource that can give you a 3-dimensional feel for what your ancestors experienced in their surroundings every day. Historic and contemporary maps can help you better understand your family’s experiences.

Cathy joins nine other family historians at the 44th Annual Ancestor Roundup genealogy seminar, presented by the Commodore Sloat Chapter, DAR, at the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints, in Seaside CA.
