Today's economic reports show that the national annual inflation rate has accelerated to 3.7%, driven heavily by a devastating 9.1% surge in gasoline prices in a single month. While Wall Street economists debate interest rates, regular folks and families here in District 58 are the ones feeling the real crush of higher groceries, gas, and electric bills. It all adds up, and too many people I know are stretched completely thin.
The financial pressure isn't just coming from Washington—it's hitting us right at home. Property values in White County have jumped 51% since 2021, meaning our local property tax bills are climbing higher and higher. About 90% of that money already goes to our schools. Here in Searcy, we are truly blessed with well-running schools, but we cannot keep asking families to give up more of their hard-earned income when their household budgets are already at a breaking point.
Meanwhile, the government in Little Rock is hoarding wealth. Arkansas just finished the year with a $655 million surplus and has about $4 billion sitting in reserves.
As your Libertarian candidate, my position is clear: that money does not belong to the state. It should come back to the people who earned it. Returning those tax dollars would provide enough to cover an unexpected car repair, a stressful medical bill, or just a little bit of breathing room for local families trying to get ahead.
I am the only candidate on the ballot in District 58 who will look at every single piece of legislation and ask: “Does this actually help regular people here?” before we allow the government to grow any further. We can take care of what matters in our communities without making life harder for us all.
