English Classes at El Puente

Do you know the difference between a shamrock and a four-leaf clover? One is associated with the Christian/Catholic Saint Patrick, and the other is associated with good luck. Both are associated with Ireland.

In the United States, St. Patrick's Day is not usually a religious celebration. Instead, it is intended as a celebration of Irish heritage. Unfortunately, the focus is often on superficial and/or stereotypical things (beer, leprechauns, or the color green) instead of authentic Irish culture.

English has many words with the same pronunciation or the same spelling (or both!) but different definitions. We call these words homonyms. They require context to know which meaning is intended.

There are 2 main sentence structures that we use to talk about giving gifts. Use this chart to practice making your own sentences!
