COMM students are going places! 🌎✨

Meet Harper Mathews, a sophomore Integrated Marketing Communication major currently studying abroad in Australia through the HUA program.

This semester has given Harper the opportunity to step outside the classroom, experience a new culture, and make memories along the way including scuba diving at the Great Barrier Reef! 🐠

We’re loving getting to see where our COMM students are learning, growing, and exploring. Thanks for sharing your experience with us, Harper! 🤍

Our eighth senior spotlight is Elena Kallenbach. She is an integrated marketing communications major from Bolivar, Missouri.

Her goal is to be an entrepreneur and go full time as a wedding and senior photographer with her business, Gethsemane Photography.

She was spiritual life director and historian of Phi Kappa Delta social club, a member of the Integrated Marketing Communications Organization, an American Studies Institute Scholar, a photographer for The Bison, and on the Dean’s List.

Mrs. Sloan is her favorite thing about the department.

A fun fact is that she loves making lattes at home, and she thinks she has gotten pretty good at it.

Our seventh senior spotlight is Hailey Stevens. She is a communications studies major from Boise, Idaho.

She plans on working as a sales and marketing specialist for KBOI 2 news, which is a Sinclair station in Boise. She is also excited to be getting married in November.

She has been part of Delta Gamma Rho social club, Alpha Chi, American Studies Institute, HU16, and the KVHU radio station.

She has loved being an anchor for HU16 and the experience and opportunities it has given her.

A fun fact about her is that she lead a Bible study for middle school girls in Searcy called Bright Lights.

She is grateful for all the teachers she has had within the department and the support and opportunities they have given her.

She has been a member of Zeta Rho social club, president of Public Relations Organization, academic editor of Petit Jean, social media manager of Student Publications, and student worker for the University Communications and Marketing department.

She loved how close knit our community was in the department.

Our fifth senior spotlight is Edgar Cardiel. He is a media production major from Oak Cliff, Texas. He is going back home to the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex and working behind cameras and in the audio video production world. He has participated in HU16, The Bison, Harding Sports Network, VideoWorks, KVHU 95.3, men’s basketball team photo/videographer, men’s football team videographer, University Communications and Marketing videographer, and American Studies Institute.

He likes that he can dive deeper into subjects that interest him with his professors being intentional about expanding his knowledge as well as being open to questions. This isn’t only related to class work but also conversations about wisdom, photography and many other subjects. On top of that, he loved learning from all the people in the building no matter if it tied directly to his line of work. He particularly enjoyed students teaching other students.

A fun fact is that he has been to Michigan, Kansas, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Indiana and Missouri — all while in college.

A quote he wanted to share is, “Knowledge means nothing if we don’t share it with other people.” Thank you, Edgar, for blessing our department!

He has loved that he has never dreaded going to class because of how fun it is.

A fun fact about him is that he likes all food except pear salad. We are so proud of you Tucker!

Emma Claire Smith is our third senior spotlight. She is a film and theological studies major from Atlanta. After graduating in May, she is planning to work at the Disney College Program in Orlando and then move to London in December to work in film. She is a member of Chi Omega Pi social club and president of the Campus Players Club. She loves how the department offers endless support and encouragement to students, which enables them to achieve great things. A fun fact is that she had the great opportunity to study abroad at HUE in fall 2023. A Bible verse she wanted to share is John 3:18: “My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.” We are so excited for what’s next for her!
