Resource Spotlight

This week we’re spotlighting the Truth for Today Commentary: Ephesians and Philippians (by Jay Lockhart and David L. Roper).

These two prison letters call us to live strong in the battle against worldliness and to stay united as members of the body of Christ and citizens of heaven. Ephesians opens our eyes to every spiritual blessing we already have in Christ; Philippians shows us how to walk that blessing out with joy, humility, and gospel partnership.

Thought of the Day

A fresh week is a gift. You don’t have to carry yesterday’s unfinished tasks or tomorrow’s unknowns into this new Monday. Hebrews reminds us that Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). His mercy is new this morning, and His presence is already with you for whatever this day holds.

Start simply: thank Him for one specific way He has been faithful, then ask Him to lead you in the next right step. He is already at work.

Have a strong, steady start to the week.

Weekend Challenge

Scripture: “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith…” (Hebrews 12:1–2a, ESV)

The Christian life is often pictured as a race that requires endurance. The writer of Hebrews has spent the preceding chapters showing why Jesus is worth following all the way to the finish line. Now he turns to us and says, in effect, “Keep running. Keep looking to Him.”

Notice two practical invitations. First, lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely. Not every hindrance is a dramatic sin; sometimes it is simply the unnecessary weight of distraction, unforgiveness, or misplaced priorities that slows our pace. Second, fix our eyes on Jesus. Endurance grows when our gaze is set on the One who already finished the race and is seated at the right hand of God.

This weekend, consider the race set before you. It may include faithfulness in a difficult family situation, consistent service in a small congregation, or simply the daily choice to trust God when answers feel slow.

Reflection questions:
1. What weight or “clinging” habit is the Holy Spirit inviting you to lay aside so you can run more freely?

2. Where do you most need to “look to Jesus” this weekend—perhaps in a specific decision, relationship, or worry?

3. How has the cloud of witnesses (past or present believers) encouraged you to keep going when you wanted to quit?

Take time with these questions. Let the text shape your prayers and your steps.

Impact

We’re grateful for continued progress in making solid Bible teaching available in native languages around the world.

Recent work has included expanded resources for Indian languages such as Hindi, Punjabi, Telugu, Marathi, and Kannada, along with Nepali materials. Printed Life of Christ volumes continue to be prepared and distributed in-country, and additional courses are going live on ThroughTheScriptures.com in these languages. Ukrainian and Mandarin (Chinese) courses and online Life of Christ resources are also helping preachers and students dig deeper into Scripture.

Each new language or newly printed set means another preacher, teacher, or student can study with greater clarity and confidence. These are the quiet advances that equip the church for the long work of teaching and reaching.

MidWeek Peak

Midweek can feel like the long stretch of the race. The initial energy of the weekend has faded, and the finish line of the next weekend still seems a ways off. In those ordinary middle days, Hebrews offers a beautiful word of encouragement.

The writer reminds us that we have a High Priest who is able to sympathize with our weaknesses. He has been tempted in every way we have, yet without sin. Because of that, we can draw near to the throne of grace with confidence and receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need (Hebrews 4:14–16).

You don’t have to manufacture strength for Wednesday. You can come just as you are—tired, uncertain, or simply needing a fresh sense of God’s nearness—and find the mercy and timely help that Jesus freely gives. He is not distant from the ordinary pressures of your week. He is near, and He is enough.

Take a quiet moment today to draw near. He is ready to meet you there.

Thought of the Day

Thought of the Day: He who began the work will finish it.

“For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus” (Philippians 1:6).
You do not start the week by holding your own spiritual life together. God began the work. God keeps the work. The new week is another stretch of His faithfulness, not a test you have to pass alone.

Walk into Monday sure of the One who is not finished with you.

Weekend Challenge

Weekend Challenge: “I have learned the secret.”
Read Philippians 4:10–13 slowly this weekend. Paul had known abundance and hunger, plenty and need. He did not claim that circumstances had finally settled. He said he had learned to be content in whatever state he was in, because he could do all things through Christ who strengthened him.

The Truth for Today Commentary on Philippians treats this as more than a motto for hard days. Contentment here is learned. It is practiced in the ordinary week — the bill, the diagnosis, the quiet house, the full calendar — by staying attached to Christ rather than to a preferred set of conditions.

Sit with the text before Sunday. Let it ask you where you are still waiting for life to improve before you will rest in the Lord.

Reflection questions:
1. Where am I most tempted to say, “I will be content when…”?
2. What has Christ already strengthened me to face that I once thought I could not?
3. Who near me needs the kind of steady, uncomplaining encouragement Paul gave the Philippians?

Impact

The same Christ who met Paul in a Roman prison is being preached in languages many of us will never speak.

Truth for Today’s work now moves in 23 languages. Printed studies continue to go out to national preachers. Online courses on ThroughTheScriptures.com keep opening the Scriptures for students who may never hold an English hardback. Mandarin courses are already serving brothers and sisters through the Chinese materials. Hindi and Punjabi studies are reaching homes and classrooms across South Asia. Ukrainian readers can open the life of Christ and related courses in their own language, even while so many of them are living through disruption.

None of this is flashy. It is steady: translation, proofing, printing, and another course going live so a preacher in another country can open the Bible with confidence on Sunday.

MidWeek Peak

Midweek can feel like the long stretch of the road. The week is no longer new, and the weekend is not here yet. Paul wrote to the Philippians from a harder place than most of us will face this afternoon, and he still said,

“Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice!” (Philippians 4:4).

That joy was not a mood. It was a decision to keep Christ at the center when the cell door stayed shut. The Truth for Today Commentary on Philippians keeps bringing us back to that point: the Lord is near, so anxiety does not get the last word. Prayer does. Thanksgiving does. The peace of God does.

If the middle of your week feels heavy, you do not have to manufacture cheerfulness. You can take the concern to the Father, name it honestly, and leave it with the One who is already near.
