Harding Honors College Home of the Honors College at Harding University.

The Honors College seeks to cultivate opportunities for highly motivated students to grow in leadership, service and academic excellence through shared experiences that are informed by faith and focus on the development of the whole person. Some call it the Sears Honors Center, most call it The Honors House, a few call it their home away from home. 704 E Center Street is the place to visit for all things Honors.

In New York City last week, 12 honors students explored the lasting impact of 9/11 on their own professions and disciplines while also encountering the personal stories behind the history.

Through conversations with first responders, medical professionals, journalists, filmmakers, nonprofit leaders, and New Yorkers who experienced 9/11 firsthand, students heard stories of loss, courage, service, resilience, and hope.

They visited the 9/11 Memorial and Museum, participated in a commemorative ceremony in Jersey City, and conducted research that will continue long after they returned home.

Twenty-five years later, we remember the events of 9/11 not only through what happened, but through the people whose lives were changed by it. We are grateful our students had the opportunity to listen, learn, and reflect.

We’re thankful for the opportunity these students have had this week in NYC to reflect on how our world changed 25 years ago today.

None of the twelve students on the trip were alive on 9/11, and Dr. Jim Miller said helping them learn more about the tragic day is an important responsibility.
