Introducing Searcy Public Schools new Director of Bands:
Christopher A. Johns, II comes to Searcy High School after spending the past 8 years as the Director of Music Education for the Mountain Pine School District. At Mountain Pine, Mr. Johns has served in numerous roles including Director of Bands, Choir Director, Elementary Music Director, as well as 7 seasons as the Assistant Baseball Coach for the Red Devils baseball team. During his tenure the band has continually increased their numbers from 2 to over 135 students program wide. Mr. Johns’ bands have also won multiple awards on the State level in both marching and concert contests establishing a tradition of excellence and becoming one of the premier programs in Class AA.
A 2006 graduate from Harmony Grove High School in Benton, Arkansas, Mr. Johns found his passion for music education early under the guidance of his his high school band director, Mr. Kevin Taylor. From here Mr. Johns continued his pursuit of higher education obtaining a Bachelors in Music Education from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, as well as a Masters in Music Education from Bowling Green State University in Ohio.
Aside from teaching Mr. Johns lives an active life outside of school with his family. He and his wife Brittany have been together for 12 years and have two beautiful daughters, Caydence - 8 and Jerri Leigh - 2. Mrs. Johns is also an educator and is known to take the family on countless adventures during the summer months they get together with their girls. She is also a coach and an avid fan of competition, so expect to see her around the ensembles.
Mr. Johns is also an active performer in professional settings across the State and region, providing him with valuable educational tools in production, music technology, and music business, enabling him to connect theory with real-world applications and ultimately enriching the learning experience for his students. For those students they may be wondering, yes, he is on Spotify.
Mr. Johns can not wait to join your Lion Family. His commitment will be unwavering and he will work diligently everyday to earn your trust and respect, not only from the community and the administration, but most importantly from the students, with Mr. Johns, students always come first. To every band student in the Searcy Program, know that change is hard on us all, but together we will prosper through it together. Mr. Johns is proud to join your legendary program and can not wait to form relationships with everyone of you! Go Lions!
