Session 7 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 So glad we still have a few more days with you!
Close ups from the Turtle Nest Excavation last week ♥️🐢
What an incredible privilege it is to see these beautiful creatures make their way from the dunes to their forever homes at sea & hope that one day they make it back to lay nests of their own!
Meet Nancy! 🌸
Nancy became the bookkeeper of the St. Christopher Camp and Conference Center in November of 2012!
Nancy’s greatest joy is her family; her husband of 45 years, Keith, her son, Christopher, and Scooter, found as a kitten in the St. Christopher dumpster! You can find her riding her bike to work, walking the beach in search of loggerhead turtle mamas’ nests and their hatchlings when they surface, or attending mass at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. She loves Friday night live music at Freshfields, world travel, and ancient archeology.
Nancy shares, “I see God in the sights, sounds, smells, and embraces of the people I meet and work with, here, at St. Christopher. I am so grateful to the Lord for allowing me the privilege of working among such caring hearts. St. Christopher is my family. My favorite place on campus is the Prayer Center. Here, I ring the bell each morning to call to prayer my fellow staffers and guests. We pray together to start the day, and keep the Lord as our focus in all we do. We pray for guests, groups, clergy, the Camp, and our own personal petitions. “Thanks”, is echoed in each person’s prayer.”
Nancy, we love you and are so grateful for you! 💕
Our temporary kitchen is well underway thanks to our incredible facilities team! We have now finished the foundation and our hvac & plumbing are up next! 💪🏼
👏🏼👏🏼 You know her, you love her, and now you get a lot more of her!
We are excited to announce that our new Director of Student Ministries is Katie Sullivan! ☀️
After previously serving as a Barrier Island Naturalist and as the Summer Camp Assistant Director, Katie has begun a new role here that involves both programs and she is equally as excited as we are. ♥️
Hands up if you’re loving Session 6! 🙌🏽☀️
Beginning tomorrow, July 4th, St. Christopher will be closed to all guests. We will be back in action welcoming campers, guests, emails & posting on Monday, July 8th. We would like to wish everyone a happy & blessed Fourth of July! 🇺🇸♥️
It’s about time we introduce you to Lori, our Director of Student Ministries! ✨
If you have registered for Summer Camp or planned a Barrier Island visit, you have likely communicated with Lori! The Director of Student Monistries is our full time office administrator; vital in furthering the success of both the BI and Summer Camp programs, and Lori has done an incredible job!
Lori shares that she sees God everywhere as she drives through the St. Christopher gates and finds the beach to be a place of total tranquility on our campus. You may have also seen her husband, Captain Dave, working on a myriad of projects with our Facilities team! When they aren’t hard at work here, you’ll certainly find them enjoying life on and around the ocean.
As we introduce you to Lori, we must also sadly say, “Farewell!”. Lori will be leaving her role with us in the coming weeks and we will be introducing you to our next Director of Student Ministries. We have been blessed by her time here and pray for continued blessings in her next role! 💕
Session Five: Outdoor Adventure Camp starts today! 👏🏼
For our OAC session, your Rising 3rd-8th grade camper(s) will experience an intentional creation care focused programming geared towards leave no trace practices, campfire building, and survival skills. Your camper will leave this session with the knowledge of how to pitch a tent, set up a campsite, build a fire, cook over a campfire, and the skills to not only survive, but THRIVE, in outdoor living. Campers, counselors, and CIT’s will sleep outside in tents during this camp session! ☀️
Enjoying the quiet until our next session begins on Monday! Thank you Tyler Harris, our new Assistant Director of Barrier Island, for these beautiful photos of St. Christopher! ☀️
Just a few of our favorite spots at St. Christopher! ✨
Have you been to them all? Is there a place here you love the most? Share with us below!
Session Four is off to a great start! These 3rd - 5th graders have been loving the waterfront! ⛵️ ⭐️
St. Christopher has often been described as a “thin place” by visitors. How have you felt The Lord’s presence move while staying here? ✨
Meet the final six of our Counselors for this Summer 🙌🏽 In addition to being so excited to share the love of Christ with our campers, here is what they have said they can’t wait for!
From Charleston ~ Presley learned about St. Christopher through friends of hers on staff sharing that it was such a wonderful environment to live and work in! She is excited to experience that while working on the beach!☀️
From North Charleston ~ TJ joins us for his second year as a Counselor and is now serving as a Communications Coordinator; putting together those incredible end of session slideshows you all get to watch at Closing Ceremonies and working hard to help you all see the best St. Christopher has to offer! TJ has been enjoying making new friends & being outdoors!
From Augusta, GA ~ Ashanti has been excited to learn more about the Episcopal Diocese this summer and put her Major at Voorhees to good use working with our campers!
From Freeport, The Bahamas ~ Shon has been loving meeting new people, building new friendships, learning new skills, and experiencing all life has to offer at St. Christopher!
From Jamaica ~ Ashley is a big fan of spending time on the beach and working with kids; a great match for camp!
From Mount Pleasant ~ Carter brings us a love for singing worship, sailing, and getting to know each camper! After visiting St. Christopher as a child, it’s great to have her back as a Counselor now! 🥳
That’s a wrap on our Summer 2024 Counselors! Who has your child had & loved this summer already? ♥️
We are pleased to announce Tyler Harris as our new Assistant Director of Barrier Island! Tyler has served as both a Naturalist and our Summer Outdoor Encounters Coordinator and we are excited for this next chapter in his work here with St. Christopher.
Tyler shares, “I’m so excited to continue working through the Barrier Island program as Assistant Director! Over the last 2 seasons as a naturalist here, I have been able to build lifelong relationships, grow in my faith, and connect students to the world around them. The Barrier Island program is so unique both through our experiential education but also through the people that make the program and St. Christopher as a whole such a beautiful place.
As Assistant Director, I hope to boost our outreach, reinforce and build new relationships, support the naturalists in any way, and bolster different aspects of our program that best bring kids closer to nature and closer to God. The program truly means so much to me, and I am so thankful I get to serve at BI in a whole new way!”
Our Barrier Island Director, Jared Crain, shares this of Tyler, “Beyond excited to have Tyler join me in Barrier Island Leadership! Tyler has a strong knowledge base of coastal ecology, a balance of joyous energy and peace, a heart for education and stewardship, and unwavering love for God and others. I am thankful to have his support and presence as the next Assistant Director!”
Congratulations, Tyler! 👏🏼
A new addition to Camp St. Christopher this Summer ~ our sand volleyball court! 🏐 🙌🏽
👏🏼👏🏼 Our last month of Barrier Island composting was a huge success! Summer Camp is now in full swing and has taken over for the month of June!☀️
Did you know St. Christopher had a new playground built in 2021? 🎉
With a direct overlook from the outdoor porches of Sea Oats and located along the path to the beach and the Sailing Center, you’ll find this children’s park! In partial shade, this is a great spot for families to beat the heat and enjoy your extra time after spending a day soaking up the sun on the shore. ☀️
We so enjoyed Family Camp & look forward to welcoming our 2nd-4th graders for Session 3 tomorrow! ☀️⛵️
