Before we welcome students back on Wednesday, August 19, we wanted to share an important change for the upcoming school year.
Beginning this year, all students at Scribner-Snyder Community Schools will keep cell phones, smart watches, and other personal communication devices off and away from the first bell to the last bell. This now includes passing periods between classes.
This isn't about taking technology away—it's about giving our students something even more valuable: the chance to be fully present. We want our hallways to be filled with conversations instead of scrolling and our lunch tables to be places where friendships grow without the constant pull of notifications.
Research continues to show that too much screen time and constant access to phones can impact attention. By creating a fully phone-free school day, we're helping students build healthy habits while encouraging face-to-face connections.
We know this is a change so we encourage families to visit with their children about these expectations before the first day of school.
