🇺🇸 Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day
Today we honor the 2,403 lives lost on December 7, 1941, and the courage of all who served. Their sacrifice reminds us of the strength found in unity and the cost of defending freedom.
As union members, we carry forward that legacy—standing together, protecting one another, and building a better future for all.
✊🏽 In remembrance. In solidarity.

🏫 Keep Our Union Strong in Our Schools
We are the clerks, secretaries, hall monitors, intervention specialists, LPNs, tradesmen, maintenance crews, and food service workers. We are the backbone of our schools—the people who keep them safe, organized, healthy, and welcoming for every student.
Our wages, benefits, and respect didn’t come by chance. They came because we stood together as a union.
But imagine if our union disappeared tomorrow:
- No one to fight for fair pay and benefits.
- No one to protect jobs from cuts or outsourcing.
- No one to guarantee safe, well-maintained schools.
- No one to defend the staff who feed, care for, and guide our kids every day.
Without our union, the dignity of our work—and the quality of education—would be at risk.
👉 Strong schools need strong unions.
Together, we protect our families, our students, and our future.

On Thursday, May 8th, the Grounds crew and maintenance staff at Francis Willard took advantage of the beautiful day by planting flowers and mulching the garden area. Great job, Guys and gals.

I received a message from META Service department that they will be shutting down our page because of violations. We have not posted since September of 2023. My guess is this is political and against unions. Sorry folks but it will be gone.

There are some jobs that people overlook. We are all in those jobs, but the jobs that we do are critical to the success of our district. Each one of us plays a vital role in the educational process. We may not be teachers but what we do contributes to the successful education of our students throughout the district. I, for one, appreciate every one of you. This is your day to be recognized and appreciated. Relax, enjoy and thank you. Happy Labor Day! ~~Luann

As we all enjoy our Holiday weekend with cookouts and fireworks, take a moment to reflect on the meaning of this day. It is the birthday of our great nation, signifying our freedom. There is no other place like the United States of America. How lucky are we all to be able to call this place home. Please enjoy your family and friends and above all be safe. Happy Independence Day! 🎆🎇~~Luann

On my mind is this. What are you doing Sunday, July 10th? Nothing you say..... We'll come on out to support Minooka's own Colleen Calpin Strong. Since retiring from the Maintenance Department of the Scranton School District, Colleen has been facing many health issues. Everyone come together to help make Colleen's life a bit better and less challenging. Colleen was a dedicated staff member of Scranton High School, she began her career as the Guidance Clerk and then moved into maintenance at Scranton High. Colleen was more than a dedicated employee, and union sister, she was a friend to all. To know her is to love her. So let's pull it together and help this family out. She would do it for us if we were in need. Come on out and see some old friends and you might even make some new friends. See you on the 10th.

A vote will be conducted for the four-day work week on Thursday, May 5, 2022. Kevin O'Shea will be in the union office, and the vote will be conducted from 11:00 AM - 4:30 PM.
Only those who work a 230 or 261-day schedule will be voting on this issue as they are the only ones affected by the schedule. This includes the 205 clerks who will be working in a 230 capacity beginning July 1, 2022. Only dues paying members are allowed to vote.
There will be no proxy or mail-in votes - as this has proven to be problematic in the past.
I am sorry for such short notice. We needed to work out scheduling problems concerning buildings that need to be open five days a week for construction projects.
All 32 BJ members working will be working a Monday to Thursday Schedule. For Maintenance, the workday will be 10 hours per day. For clerical, the workday will be an 8 3/4 hour workday.
Please share this so that all 32 BJ members can see it. An email was sent out as well.
