Member activities include creating and distributing posters for each semester's Bayleaf Call for Entries, voting on submitted works, creating posters for the annual spring Bayleaf Exhibition, and distributing printed magazines across campus each semester. Bayleaf open Call for Entries
Submission Deadline: Friday, April 3, 2020

The Bayleaf Open is a Creative Art and Writing competition open to local high school and Marywood students sponsored by the Art and Communication Arts, English, and Foreign Languages Departments. Students will create works in response to a theme inspired by Marywood’s mission and core values. The contest will be judged and prizes awarded.

Artwork will be on display in the Learning Commons, while selected literary works will be read aloud during a public reception and celebration. Prizes will be awarded. The event is free and open to the public.

The English department awards two writing medals at graduation, and I would like to invite you to submit your creative writing for consideration. Please see the instructions below. If you have any questions, you can contact me through email ([email protected]) or stop by the English office (LAC 217). I look forward to hearing from you.

GRADUATING UNDERGRADUATE SENIORS IN ALL MAJORS: THE CREATIVE WRITING MEDAL:
To be considered, please submit up to ten creative pieces (poetry, prose or drama), typed, to the English department by Tuesday, February 4 at noon. Journalistic pieces and late submissions will not be considered. Please include a cover letter that notes if you have given poetry readings; taken a creative writing course here at Marywood; been involved with the Bayleaf or been published (state where and what pieces). If you’d like entries returned, please enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope. Award winners are expected to attend the May ceremony. This award is exclusive to Marywood and is given in honor of Pulitzer Prize winner J. Harold Brislin.

GRADUATING UNDERGRADUATE SENIORS IN ALL MAJORS: Sr. Caritas Poetry Award:

To be considered, please submit ten typed poems to the English department by Tuesday, February 4 at noon. Late submissions will not be accepted. Please include a cover letter that notes if you have given poetry readings; taken a creative writing course here at Marywood; been involved with the Bayleaf or been published (state where and what pieces); been a member of poetry/creative writing groups(state where and when); done independent studies here at Marywood; or attended poetry workshops, lectures and readings. If you’d like entries returned, please enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope. Award winners are expected to attend the May ceremony. This award is in honor of an esteemed English professor and poet.

Please submit all entrees in hard copy to Peggy Leombruni in LAC 217.
