Our final introduction is our incredible admissions counselor, Maria (she/her)! Maria graduated from the University of Scranton in 2021 with a degree in Strategic Communications and enjoys being a local admissions counselor because of the food scene in NEPA!

Region: Northeast PA

Favorite Part of the Job: Talking with my students! I love being a part of such a fun time in my students lives, it’s always delightful to hear from them as they work through their college decision.

Favorite To-Do in Scranton: I love hiking! My favorite spot is the Eales Preserve

Favorite Movie: Pride & Prejudice (2005) is my go-to movie for any occasion!

We’re so excited to introduce another one of our stellar graduate admissions counselors today, Ashleigh Smith! When Ashleigh has free time, she loves to spend it with her husband and kids. However, she still makes time for her many hobbies: photography, crafting, singing, crocheting, quilting, and baking sourdough!

Favorite Part of the Job: My favorite part of this role is getting to build meaningful relationships with graduate students that have completed their application and help them envision their future here. I also love showcasing just how welcoming and wonderful the Scranton community truly is.

Favorite To-Do in Scranton: First Friday! There’s something special about wandering around downtown, popping into galleries, and stumbling onto art and music you didn’t expect. It’s such a simple, cool way to soak in the creativity in our community.

Favorite Book: I can’t pick just one favorite book. But I’ve always loved Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights, and Pride and Prejudice. There’s just something about those stories and characters that sticks with me no matter how many times I read them.

Why should students choose Scranton: Our Jesuit mission shapes the values and community here at Scranton, and prepares our students to become ethical and impactful leaders within their fields and beyond.
