Fortis Institute Director of Career Services Kirsten Smith had the opportunity to participate in Junior Achievement’s YES! Day at Mountain View Jr. Sr. High School today! Fortis is proud to work with amazing organizations like Junior Achievement and the Mountain View School District.

Throughout the event, Kirsten worked with 7th-grade students during sessions focused on regional companies, career opportunities, and workforce readiness skills. Students explored the wide range of jobs available within various industries while also discussing the skills employers look for as they prepare for their future careers.

It was a great opportunity to connect education, career exploration, and the workforce while helping students begin thinking about the many paths available to them after high school.

Surgical technologists work alongside surgeons, anesthesiologists and nurses to support successful procedures. Their role begins with preparing the operating room and continues throughout the procedure and after it ends.

🌟 New Grad Spotlight: Victoria, LPN 🌟

Starting your nursing career is a big step and we're so proud of how Victoria has grown since joining the Edenbrook Second Ave family as a new graduate LPN!

We asked Victoria what her experience has been like so far, and her words say it all:

"My experience as a new graduate at Edenbrook has been incredibly valuable. With Lisa as my preceptor, I have gained confidence in my nursing skills, learned how to prioritize patient care, and developed a stronger understanding of what it means to work as part of a healthcare team. My whole team has been supportive, patient, and willing to teach me throughout the transition from student nurse to practicing nurse. I am grateful for the guidance and experience I have gained during this time and look forward to continuing to grow in my nursing career."

A huge thank you to Lisa and the entire team for creating an environment where new nurses can learn, grow, and thrive! 💙

🦷✨ BIG SMILES at Fortis Institute – Scranton! ✨🦷

This week, our Dental Hygiene and Dental Assisting teams were busy making a difference at our "Give Kids A Smile" event! 💙😁

Local children up to age 17 received FREE preventive dental care, including cleanings, screenings, X-rays and more—while our Fortis students gained invaluable hands-on experience working directly with patients and giving back to the community. 🪥🦷

With 50–60 children scheduled and additional walk-ins expected, there were plenty of smiles to go around! Even better—this was our second Give Kids A Smile event this year!

📺 And we made the news! A huge thank you to FOX56 WOLF for stopping by and showcasing our students, instructors, and the important work happening right here at Fortis Institute – Scranton.

We’re proud to help our students become skilled healthcare professionals while showing them what it means to serve the community they’ll one day care for. ❤️

🌟 Women In STEM Spring Symposium Recap! 🌟

We were thrilled to participate in the Women In STEM Spring Symposium at Penn State Hazleton, presented by Partners in Education!

Fortis Institute had the privilege of connecting with over 300 amazing high school girls from across NEPA. Our goal wasn’t just to share information — it was to inspire confidence in these young women to pursue careers in STEM and believe in their own abilities and aspirations.

We showcased exciting and essential career paths including:

LPN (Licensed Practical Nursing)
Medical Assistant
Dental Assistant
Dental Hygiene
CDL (Commercial Driver’s License)
HVAC Technology

By highlighting real opportunities in healthcare and skilled trades, we wanted every girl to leave knowing she is capable, worthy, and powerful enough to succeed in any STEM field she chooses.
