Congratulations to Alejandra Marroquin, MSW, for being recognized as exemplary Phase 1 Faculty Advisor!

The award honors outstanding commitment and stewardship to the advising program, consistent engagement with advisees and meaningful contributions to the continuous quality improvement of the program.

“Professor Marroquin was an excellent faculty advisor who clearly invested in the success of her students. Not only did she provide clear and helpful guidance, but she made a strong effort to get to know each student and tailor advice to each individually,” said one student.

Inspired by the student-led free clinic in Scranton, Geisinger School of Medicine students hosted a free community health fair at the Guthrie campus.

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., community members stopped by to receive free screenings and connect with healthcare professionals in a welcoming, relaxed setting.

Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the day a success. Together, we’re keeping our community on the path to better health!

Community, connection and compassion in action 💙

On May 13, volunteers and members of the MD Class of 2029 came together for the Family and Community-Centered Experience program’s annual thank-you reception — celebrating a year of learning that goes far beyond the classroom. Now in its third year, the event honored 22 volunteer family members and more than 120 medical students who have partnered to better understand real-world health experiences and social drivers of health.

“One of the most important things our students hear are stories about doctors the families loved, and maybe some who didn’t make such a good impression. It helps our students determine how to be the kind of doctor they want to be,” said Amanda Caleb, PhD, professor of medical humanities and director of the FCCE program.

Run, reset, repeat 🏃

Our student-led Run Club runs regularly on Fridays at 7 a.m. and Sundays at 9 a.m. throughout Scranton — because we all need a little movement between lectures, labs and late-night reviews.

Students can join by contacting the Run Club e-board: Brooke Adams (president), Michael Howard (vice president), Aubrianna Navaroli (treasurer) and Lydia Liszewski (secretary).

On May 8, we honored the 36 Abigail Geisinger Scholars of the MD Class of ’26 with a reception celebrating their commitment to care for our communities.

Four of the scholars will complete residencies in internal medicine or family medicine in Wilkes-Barre. One matched in family medicine at Geisinger Lewistown and one in internal medicine in Danville. The rest are going everywhere from Boston and Philadelphia to Santa Rosa, California. But all will return in just a few years to deliver exceptional care at Geisinger.

“It was energizing to be surrounded by my future colleagues, knowing that my patients and the Geisinger community will be getting so many excellent physicians in the very near-future. What a wonderful achievement to celebrate,” said Anja Landis, MD, associate program director of Geisinger Wyoming Valley's Kistler Family Medicine Residency and director of the Abigail Geisinger Scholars Program.
