We would like to congratulate one of our graduating students, CJ Shygelski, on his acceptance to Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine!
During his time at Marywood, CJ was a member of the science department with a major in Biology, as well as minors in Nutrition and Chemistry. In his freshman and sophomore years, he was a member of the Marywood Track and Field team, where he served as a captain in his sophomore year. Through his work in the classroom and on the track, he earned the 2024 Atlantic East Elite 20 Award, which is given to the athlete with the highest GPA who competes in a conference championship.
In addition to athletics, he also took on several leadership roles at Marywood. These roles include his involvement with groups such as the Marywood Activities Council, New Student Orientation, Marywood Dance Marathon, and Student Government Association. CJ was not only involved with Student Engagement, but also through the science department through his time here. Particularly, he was a member of the Biology and Chemistry club, where he helped host events with local elementary school children to spark an interest in STEM fields. For his efforts through these organizations, he will be awarded at graduation with the Dolores M. Ackourey Medal for Excellence in Leadership and Human Relations.
Through his time at Marywood, CJ was able to be exposed to the field of medicine through several hands on experiences. In 2024 he was given the opportunity to intern at Sanofi in the Continuous Improvement department. He was also able to gain clinical experience as a medical scribe in the ER at Geisinger CMC.
Through all the opportunities he had at Marywood, CJ was able to fulfill his goal of matriculating at his first choice medical school, Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine. To celebrate this, he will also be awarded during graduation with the Sister M. Sylvia Morgan, IHM Medal for Excellence in Pre-Medical Studies.
Congratulations CJ! ππ©Ίπ
