Seoul, South Korea
Drink: Somaek
Dish: Dakgangjeong
Friday night in Seoul comes with a little sparkle and plenty of crunch. Somaek—soju mixed with crisp lager—lands light, brisk, and refreshingly direct. Dakgangjeong brings the counterpoint: crackling fried chicken glazed in a glossy sweet-spicy sauce, finished with sesame and scallion. The drink’s clean carbonation sweeps through the sticky lacquer and heat, sending you straight back for another bite. Add cool pickled radish between rounds, pull your chair closer, and let the table get loud. 🍗✨

Region / City: Kakheti, Georgia
Drink: Georgian amber qvevri wine
Dish pairing: Chakapuli
Friday night in Kakheti starts with amber in the glass. Qvevri-fermented Georgian wine brings dried apricot, tea-like tannin, and a savory edge; chakapuli answers with tender lamb, tarragon, fresh herbs, and the bright tang of sour plum. The wine’s grip steadies the stew’s richness, while its acidity keeps every spoonful vivid. Take a sip, tear off a piece of bread, and let the table slow down. Some pairings refresh. This one opens up, course after course. 🍷🌿
