Have you ever wondered what an elementary school looks, sounds, and feels like when the children and teachers are on summer break? I can tell/show you! From the last day of school in May up to the first day of the new year in August, we are in constant motion getting the school ready for a new school year. Many of you know that I was a Disney cast member (once upon a time in a galaxy far far away/Anaheim :)) I used to LOVE working a closing shift at the 'Happiest Place on Earth.' From where I worked, I had to walk across the entire park to get to my backstage locker-room, change, and head home. While the park was no longer abuzz with smiling guests, it was hopping with cleaners, mechanics, maintenance, and even painters who would do nightly touch ups on the King Arthur Carrousel in Fantasyland- yes, every night! All of these people with a common goal...make the park shine as bright as ever for the guests the next day (and the next, and the next). As a principal, I believe I still work at the 'Happiest Place on Earth' here at Pueblo Elementary School in SUSD. While we may not have The King Arthur's Carrousel, we do have painter extraordinaire, Chad, who is ensuring that our 'happiest place' is ready for our smiling guests/students to arrive in a little over a week. I want to thank our team: Trish, Melody, Julie, Dave, Jose, and Emma who all work so tirelessly to make sure that we are shiny and bright and ready to welcome our smiling families this year. 2026/2027 here we go...55 years of Pueblo and counting!

Full circle moment when friends and 'boss ladies' combine...
Pictured here is my current supervisor and long-time friend, Dr. Christine Bonow, Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Education in SUSD, Principal Jennifer Waldron, my dear friend, principal partner, and National Gold Star Principal of Anasazi Elementary, and Dr. Ibi Haghighat, current interim principal of Copper Ridge K8, but my former supervisor, mentor, and friend. So happy to have these ladies by my side! It is going to be a great year!

So proud and excited to introduce two new amazing ladies who are joining our Pueblo staff family. Srta. Prokop (in flower dress) and Mrs. Janka (black shirt) will join our already amazing 4th and 5th grade team. Srta. Prokop is joining us from a sister DLI school in Tucson. She will be partnering with Miss Vodegel and teaching 4th grade Spanish. Mrs. Janka is "rejoining" us in SUSD (having taught previously at Cherokee) as our 4th and 5th grade English side teacher. The energy of New Teacher Orientation today was incredible- Great Job SUSD Teaching and Learning!
Fun fact...Srta. Prokop's former principal and I became fast friends this summer, as I met her, when she attended my presentation at a leadership conference in Tucson this June. Pueblo students will benefit from these amazing professionals!

Amazing "unofficial" kickoff to the 26/27 school year at Renegade Coffee in Scottsdale! Last year Pueblo staff and I (Principal Hummon) began a tradition of welcoming new staff to our Pueblo family with a casual, coffee, "meet and greet." This gives new staff a chance to see faces ahead of the big SUSD 'new teacher orientation,' kicking off tomorrow. We loved welcoming Mr. Fullmer (Band and Strings), Mrs. Janka (4 & 5 English), Srta. Prokop (4th Spanish), Mrs. Huffman (Psychologist), and Mrs. Shultz (Gifted)- Thank you to all 21+ "returning Pueblo family" who chose to come out and welcome our new peeps! Mil Gracias to Dawn and the fine folks at Renegade who treated us like VIP's!
