Today marks the 236th anniversary of the very first US patent!

On July 31, 1790, the United States granted the first U.S. patent to Samuel Hopkins for an improved process for making potash. This patent, signed by George Washington, was the first of nearly 13 million patents the U.S. government has granted.

From the first patent to endless possibilities, the future is still being invented!!

How we prepare our students for interacting with AI matters.

How do we prepare students for a future where AI is part of everyday life?

Artificial intelligence is already transforming how people create, communicate, and solve problems. The opportunity for education is to help students understand these tools while developing the critical thinking, creativity, and ethical judgment needed to use them responsibly.

AI literacy goes beyond learning new technology. It helps students evaluate information, recognize bias, question what they see, and understand when human insight matters most.

Preparing students for the future isn't about replacing human thinking with AI. It's about equipping the next generation of innovators, entrepreneurs, and problem-solvers with the knowledge and skills to shape technology responsibly.
