Do not become obsessed with learning something new every day while forgetting to perfect what you already know.

Go back to your basics.

Study your stance.

Improve your breathing.

Sharpen your timing.

Strengthen your body.

Calm your mind.

Master yourself.

Because karate is not about how much you know. It is about how deeply you understand what you know—and how consistently you apply it in your life.

The true black belt is not simply worn around the waist. It is demonstrated through character, discipline, respect, and growth.

Declutter the Space... Declutter the Mind...

THE DOJO LOBBY I WALKED PAST FOR TOO LONG — Mr. Miyagi of Scottsdale

For years, I walked through the lobby of my dojo and saw the same thing.
Too much stuff.
Too many things on the walls.
Too many things competing for attention.
And somewhere in the back of my mind, I kept thinking:
“I need to clean this up.”
But I never quite got around to it.
Until I did.
I started taking things down.
Removing clutter.
Simplifying.
Making space.
And something unexpected happened.
The lobby looked bigger.
But more importantly…
MY MIND FELT BIGGER.
Funny thing about clutter.
You think it is just taking up physical space.
But sometimes it is taking up mental space, too.
Every picture.
Every trophy.
Every piece of furniture.
Every thing you have been meaning to deal with…
It quietly asks for your attention.
So I started removing instead of adding.
And I learned something the Mr. Miyagi way:
Sometimes, to create more space…
you must first remove something.
Less stuff.
More room.
Less noise.
More clarity.
Less distraction.
More focus.
We are always being told to add something.
Buy something.
Build something.
Improve something.
But sometimes the greatest improvement is subtraction.
Reduce to increase.
That is what I am doing with the dojo lobby.
And maybe that is what I need to do in a few other areas of life, too.
Declutter the room.
Declutter the mind.
Make space for what matters.
Wax on.
