Sometimes being a team player looks like asking the tough questions to make the team better!

This post has gotten a lot of attention again on here lately, so resharing.

Some of us are sleeping in.
Some are organizing their entire house.
Some are reading for fun.
Some are planning next year.
Some are spending every day with family.
Some are protecting their peace.
And most of us are probably a little bit of everything.

You don't have to justify how you're spending your break.

Summer isn't a competition to see who can be the most productive, the most adventurous, or the most "put together."

It's a chance to recover from a year of pouring into everyone else.

So choose the vibe that feels right for you.

💛 Tell me what your vibe is below!

Reposting this from October… because the Trump admin announced that they are doing this.

Original caption:
I’m speaking as someone who has lived experience navigating life with a learning disability, as a teacher of students with disabilities, and as a union leader fighting for the rights of educators and our students.

Moving special education oversight from the Department of Education to Health and Human Services might not seem like a big deal, but the consequences are very real.

Students could lose access to inclusive classrooms, protections under IDEA could weaken, and educators may have to fight for the same services state by state.

This isn’t just about policy… it’s about our kids’ right to learn, grow, and thrive.

As someone with a learning disability, I know firsthand how much support, clarity, and advocacy matters. And as a teacher and union member, I know how much educators pour into their students every single day. The last thing we need is yet another fight just to ensure our students get what they’re legally owed.

This is why we must pay attention, raise our voices, and protect the rights of both students and educators. Our kids deserve better.

A reminder for every educator who spent the year carrying everyone and everything:

You do not need to earn your summer break.

You do not need to justify resting.
You do not need to be productive every day.
You do not need to answer emails because “it’ll only take a minute.”
You do not need to spend June and July preparing for August.

The work will still be there.

For now, take the nap. Read the non-PD book. Spend money on yourself without guilt. Forget what day it is. Say no to unpaid work. Do absolutely nothing.

You are a human before you are an educator.

And people deserve rest. 💕

Year 13 is in the books! 📚

This school year stretched me in soooo many ways.

I navigated challenges that I never have, built an entirely new class and curriculum from the ground up while teaching it, mentored an incredible resident teacher, stepped into a leadership role with my local teachers union, and created meaningful connections with so many students.

There were definitely moments of exhaustion and overwhelm, but I also found more balance than I have in years. Learning to protect my time, prioritize my self, and find a sustainable rhythm.

I’m proud of everything we accomplished this year and grateful for the lessons, growth, and memories that came with it.

Now it’s time to recharge and get ready for Year 14. I’m hoping for a little less chaos, but I’m excited to keep refining, improving, and building on everything I started this year.

Off to go celebrate my growth, resilience, and solid 13th year of teaching!
