Last night, Hebrew High gathered to remember. 🕯️

With Morah Irit, our students discovered how the Hebrew root ז-כ-ר, the three letters behind remembering, memory, and memorializing, calls us to carry memory forward through what we say, sing, and do.

We listened to the words of the song, למען אחי (lema'an achai/for the sake of my brothers), then turned reflection into action. Each student wrote what they will carry forward and added it to our community memorial: Remember them. Show love. Always welcome others.

This is Hebrew High: where Jewish learning grows up. Our teens wrestle with big ideas, find their own voices, and turn learning into meaning and responsibility.

Today, we remember. 💙

Hebrew High and ASU Jewish Studies are partnering to offer JST 230: History of the Jewish People, three ASU credits that transfer anywhere, taught right at the Ina Levine Jewish Community Campus. Scholarships are available!

Spring semester, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:00 to 7:15 pm. For juniors, seniors, or students who've completed one year of Hebrew High.

On Tuesday we learn Hebrew at Hebrew High!
Tuesday night our Intermediate Hebrew students practiced talking about the days of the week and their own schedules. ביום שני יש לי... ("On Monday, I have...") is the kind of Hebrew you can use in real life, and it comes with a lot of laughing along the way.

Learning a language is easiest when you're using it to talk about your real life. 💬

Who makes the news and why?

Hebrew High teacher Alex Walter led students in creating a “Leader Leaderboard,” an activity designed to get them thinking more intentionally about the leaders they see in the news, how those leaders are being talked about and what that can tell us about leadership today.

At Hebrew High, learning goes beyond the classroom. It’s about asking questions, paying attention to the world around us and building the skills to think critically about what we see and hear.

Learning Hebrew doesn’t always mean sitting in a classroom!

Our Native Hebrew Speakers class recently took their learning on the move with a scavenger hunt around the Ina Levine Jewish Community Campus. Students explored the building, discovered new things along the way, and put their Hebrew skills to work learning and using the Hebrew names for what they found.

It’s just one of the many ways Hebrew High makes learning interactive, engaging and fun.

Meet the Teacher: Kim Klett!

With more than 30 years in the classroom and decades dedicated to Holocaust education, Kim brings an incredible depth of knowledge and experience to Hebrew High.

During her 31 years at Dobson High School, Kim taught English and developed a Holocaust Literature course that grew from a semester-long class into a full-year course. Her work has taken her far beyond the classroom, from studying at Yad Vashem and in Poland to working with educators across the country and around the world.

Kim is a United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Teacher Fellow, an Echoes & Reflections Senior Facilitator, Deputy Director of the Educators’ Institute for Human Rights, and Board Secretary of the Phoenix Holocaust Association. She has also been recognized with the Tucson Jewish Museum and Holocaust Education Center Teacher of the Year Award and the ADL National Kay Family Award.

We are so fortunate to have Kim sharing her experience, perspective and passion for education with our Hebrew High students this year!
