🧑‍🏫 Dyslexia is a neurological condition caused by a different wiring of the brain. There is no cure for dyslexia and individuals with this condition must learn coping strategies. Research indicates that dyslexia has no relationship to intelligence. Individuals with dyslexia are neither more nor less intelligent than the general population. But some say the way individuals with dyslexia think can actually be an asset in achieving success.🙋

While dyslexia can make reading more difficult, with the right instruction, almost all individuals with dyslexia can learn to read. Source: International Dyslexia Association.

👩‍🏫 Did you know⁉️ Most children start school recognizing their own name.  Why is that?  Their name belongs to them.  It is so familiar to them that it is unnecessary for them to sound it out.  They just know it.😊This familiarity is what Picture Me Reading brings to high-frequency words.  They take ownership of these words because they no longer see them as random symbols but as a representation of a concept that they understand and is part of their world.🙌

💡According to Early Years UK, engaging a child in sensory play helps strengthen their brain 🧠 development for learning, which enhances their memory and ability to complete more complex learning tasks.

✅There are many benefits of sensory play when it comes to learning to read! Having children form the words themselves will help to develop neural-pathways in the brain 🧠 and better comprehend the words they are mastering. 🙌

💡 Forming letters and words with salt dough is a perfect sensory activity to reinforce those tricky words! Another idea if you have letter cookie cutters is have children cut ✂️ out letters, bake and arrange them into Dolch words using Picture Me Reading cards as their guide. 💡

⬇️Salt Dough Recipe⬇️
1 cup of plain flour (250g)
1/2 cup table salt (125g)
1/2 cup water (125ml)
⭐Method⭐
1. Mix flour and salt in a large bowl. Add the water and stir until it comes together into a ball.
2. Transfer the dough to a floured work surface and it's ready to go!

To harden, bake in the oven for 3 hours on the lowest setting.

“ I am writing you to tell you how grateful I am for your development of this program. I am home-schooling my 9-year-old son who has been diagnosed with pretty severe learning disabilities along with language disorder and memory/auditory processing issues. I have tried several programs, trying to make progress in his reading skill.  It has been extremely slow for him and frustrating.  It dawned on me pretty early in this journey that he thinks in pictures, lives in pictures and remembers in pictures. I noticed that the only sight words that he remembers from one day to the next are the ones that we have associated with a picture. Then I started researching and came across your program. I was excited but apprehensive to try yet another program…. Well, it’s only been a few weeks since we started, and I am just thrilled and actually can’t believe it!  We have added over 25 words to his sight word ability in such a short amount of time. The best part is that he is really proud of himself and excited to be finally reading sentences on his own.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart for seeing a need and coming up with a solution.”
