Dr. Wanda Phillips has spent more than 40 years in grammar education with one idea at the heart of it all: when students truly understand grammar, they become clearer writers, stronger thinkers, and more confident communicators in every part of their lives.

Dr. Wanda Phillips designed these tests specifically to help parents and teachers find the right starting level, whether a student is picking up a grammar curriculum for the first time or making a switch from another program. Tests are available for grades 3-6 and grades 7 and up, and each one comes with a complete answer key.

Getting placement right matters. Starting too low can leave a motivated student disengaged, and starting too high can create unnecessary frustration before a student has had a chance to build confidence. These tests give you a clear, reliable picture of where to begin.

Summer is the perfect time to help students stay confident and consistent with their reading skills ☀️📚

Without the pressure of school deadlines, just 15–20 minutes of reading a day can go a long way in strengthening comprehension, vocabulary, and focus before the new school year begins.

The key is consistency over intensity. Small daily habits add up more than occasional long sessions.

Let kids take the lead by choosing books that genuinely interest them, whether it’s graphic novels, nonfiction, fiction series, or even audiobooks during car rides or quiet time. When reading feels enjoyable instead of assigned, it naturally becomes something they want to return to.

Keep it light, flexible, and pressure-free. The goal isn’t to “assign summer homework,” but to build a lifelong reading habit that feels natural and rewarding ✏️✨
