One of the great things about instructing in Arizona is the beautiful scenery everywhere. I took these pics on a cross country from KSDL to KPGA via KLFG and KSEZ.

One of the perks of instructing in Arizona is all the beautiful scenery we get to enjoy. This week it was the Grand Canyon!

One of the most controversial features of Cirrus airplanes has always been the Cirrus Airframe Parachute System (CAPS). Since the first SR20 shipped in 1999 many have criticized CAPS as being unnecessary or ineffective.
At this weeks annual Cirrus CX conference their flight safety group presented the slide below which should settle the issue once and for all - 207 pilots and passengers are alive today because of CAPS. Making CAPS standard equipment on all Cirrus airplanes was a great decision on the part of Cirrus.
If that statistic doesn't convince you consider how many people died because they didn't pull CAPS when they had a chance. One of the most haunting pictures in the presentation was a picture from a fatal accident where a pilot and passenger were killed when the Cirrus they were flying in flew into icing, crashed and burned. As you can see in this picture from the charred wreckage the pilot not only didn't pull CAPS when his airframe iced up, he didn't even remove the safety pin before taking off! That is why we CSIPs teach our Cirrus students to "think Caps" whenever they experience in-flight problems.
