Introducing Julia Washburn, Copper Sky Academy’s Teaching Assistant!

Since the first day of school, Julia has been a wonderful presence in our classrooms — many of our families already know and love her from her time leading P.E. and our Camp Social program. Now she’s bringing that same energy to both Art and P.E. as a full-time member of our team.

Julia’s warmth and consistency with our kids has made her a favorite, and we’re so glad to have her here full-time.

First day of middle school is officially in the books! 📚✨

We had the best time welcoming our middle schoolers back to campus this week — and getting to introduce them to Mrs. Estrada Freed, our new Middle School Teacher! From the smiles in this photo, it’s safe to say day one was a hit (Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets book club already off and running).

We’re also excited to share that our middle schoolers are diving into some brand new special courses this year: Technology, Spanish, and Art — giving them even more opportunities to explore, create, and grow beyond their core academics.

Here’s to a wonderful year ahead for this incredible group of kids. 🍎☄️

Our Middle School Teacher is here! Jaime Estrada Freed “Miss Jaime” is thrilled to be joining the Copper Sky Academy community as our very own Middle School Teacher. Her qualifications and experience are mind-blowing 🤯.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in English Language & Literature and Chinese Language & Literature from Smith College and completed graduate studies in the Master of Liberal Arts program at the University of Pennsylvania. She has also completed graduate coursework in Special Education at Grand Canyon University and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Educational Administration while working toward National Board Certification in Adolescent and Young Adult English Language Arts.

Jaime has taught both middle and high school students and is especially passionate about supporting gifted and twice-exceptional learners with dyslexia, ADHD, autism, and other unique learning profiles. She believes every child deserves to be challenged, understood, and celebrated for their individual strengths. Her classroom emphasizes strong relationships, creativity, critical thinking, and a genuine love of reading and writing in a supportive environment where students feel safe to take risks and grow.

Outside of school, Jaime enjoys reading, lifelong learning, and finding creative ways to make literature come alive—including the occasional Harry Potter-inspired classroom activity. She is excited to partner with Copper Sky families and looks forward to a wonderful year of learning together.

Copper Sky Academy is looking for a Middle School Teacher to join our small, close-knit classroom in Scottsdale. This isn’t just a teaching job — it’s a chance to be part of a mission to give kids a highly specialized education, with structured curriculums and support, that they simply can’t get in a traditional classroom.

Our students are strong, capable readers who’ve moved well beyond foundational literacy work — this role is about building on that foundation with advanced, structured content across subjects, with room for project-based learning too.

What we’re looking for:

✅ Bachelor’s degree required
✅ Interest or experience with project-based learning
✅ Comfort and skill working with learners who benefit from extra structure and support
✅ Someone who wants to be part of a small, mission-driven team — not just a classroom

Salary: $60,000–$70,000, commensurate with experience and education level.

This week our campers dove hands-first into paper mache, learned real magic tricks, and then performed a full magic show for their families.

Clay. Sticks. Paint. Imagination.
Halfway through — the room went quiet. Not because anyone asked them to.

Because they were completely absorbed in making something with their hands.
No screens. No notifications. Just kids being kids.
