Here are a few simple tips to help capture your athlete’s performance the right way.

⭐️ Horse Show Filming Tips
1. Film horizontally (landscape) : Horizontal videos are best for YouTube and recruiting videos. Vertical videos often cut off parts of the horse, rider, pattern, or course.
2. Keep your rider centered in the frame: Track your rider throughout the pattern while keeping the entire horse and rider visible with a space around them so coaches can clearly evaluate the ride.
3. Use zoom in moderation: Zoom enough so your rider is easy to see, but avoid being so zoomed in that the horse is cut off or you can’t smoothly follow the ride.
4. Record in 4K at 60 FPS: If your phone has the option, turn on the 4K 60 FPS camera setting before you start filming. This creates sharper, smoother video that looks great and allows for high-quality slow motion if needed.
5. Start recording early and stop recording late: Capture the entire run—from entering the arena until exit to ensure everything is captured.
6. Keep your phone steady: Hold your phone with both hands or use a tripod if possible. Smooth footage is much easier to watch.
7. Avoid talking while filming—or mute the video afterward: Background conversations can be distracting. If you do talk during the run, mute the audio before sharing the video.
8. Film even if there’s a professional videographer: Technology fails, camera operators miss rides, and files can get lost. Having your own backup video is always worth it.
