Thanks to our governing board vote tonight, it’s official that Ms. Erika Symons will be our new Assistant Principal !
Erika Symons, brings 13 years of diverse classroom experience to this role. Her teaching background spans multiple grade levels and subject areas, beginning with first grade, kindergarten through 6th grade Technology, and most recently 6th through 8th grade Computer Design at Mountainside Middle School. During her time at Mountainside, she also took on several leadership responsibilities, serving as a Teacher Instructional Leader and Interim IB Coordinator.
She holds a Bachelor's degree in Education from the University of Wyoming and a Master's degree in Educational Leadership from Grand Canyon University. Above all, Erika considers herself a strong advocate for public education and believes deeply in the lasting impact that a quality education has, not just on individual students, but on the broader community as a whole

Mountainside Cougars successfully completed “Summer Send Off” with a tournament day and talent show! I don’t know if we had more fun or the students. Here are the gold, silver, and bronze medal teams. Thank you PTO and parents for supporting our efforts and a huge shout out to Mrs. Garcia who organized everything!!

Mountainside Middle School serves students in grades 6th through 8th and encourages them to think beyond the ordinary and pursue the extraordinary.
As one of only three wall-to-wall comprehensive public IB schools in Arizona, Mountainside’s International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme empowers students through rigorous academics, global learning, STEM exploration, world languages, athletics, and real-world problem solving.
Students are required to study a foreign language, with opportunities to learn Mandarin and Spanish, helping prepare them for global communication and future success.

🌎Did you know that Scottsdale Unified School District offers the full IB Continuum? Students can begin their journey with the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) at Anasazi Elementary School, continue with the Middle Years Programme (MYP) at Mountainside Middle School and Desert Mountain High School, and culminate with the Diploma Programme (DP) at Desert Mountain High School.
This seamless pathway allows students to grow as inquirers, thinkers, and global citizens, building skills, confidence, and a strong sense of purpose every step of the way.
This week, our 5th grade students visited Mountainside Middle School, taking an exciting next step as they continue their IB journey at MMS.
