*Sometimes* what we consider to be a “challenging” behavior has a quick solution - as simple as changing what or how we say something!
When your child does not listen to or follow through with a request you make, it’s easy to quickly feel frustrated and jump to the conclusion that your child is willfully defying you.
However, many times the problem lies within the *what* or *how* of our request!
This is not because we are bad parents! Sometimes, these things can be less than intuitive and when we are already juggling a million things, our attention divided can have us falling into some these request traps.
Remember, as Dr. Ross Greene says ♥️ children do well if they can ♥️

“Calm down.”
Most ADHD kids wish they could.
One of the biggest mindset shifts for ADHD parents is realizing that big emotions aren’t a sign that your child is giving you a hard time. More often, they’re having a hard time.
ADHD affects emotional regulation, which means some kids feel emotions more intensely and have a harder time calming their brains and bodies once they’re upset.
When we understand what’s happening beneath the behavior, our response can change too.

Is summer a bad time to start ADHD medication?
Not necessarily. In fact, summer can be a great time to monitor symptoms, watch for side effects, and make adjustments before school starts.
The exception? If your child is in a different camp every week and routines are constantly changing, it can be harder to know what’s causing what.

If you feel like your days are a constant blur of reminders, meltdowns, and “did you brush your teeth yet?” ….you’re not doing anything wrong.
Many of us want to feel more connected with their child… but real life keeps getting in the way. Between the time crunch, the negative cycles, and managing our own mental load, connection can start to feel like another to-do on the list.
Here’s the good news: connection doesn’t have to be one more thing you schedule. You can build it into what you’re already doing.
💡 Try habit stacking: pair connection with something that already happens:
✨ Talk on the short walk from the car to school
✨ Chat while you chop veggies for dinner
✨ End the day with one funny or grateful moment at bedtime
Small, predictable moments add up. And those little pockets of connection? They make everything else (routines, directions, even behavior) flow so much easier. 💛
Parenting ADHD isn’t about perfection. It’s about connection.
