The students have been working hard to set up a microeconomy just in time for Christmas! They have been creating pricing sheets, helping set up order forms, creating a marketing plan, and designing items to sell. The store will officially be up and running this coming Monday 12/4! Get your Christmas trinkets and ornaments at the front office when walking into school. We will have some ATI students stationed at the front from 7:30 am to 8:30 am and in the afternoon we’ll have some students up front from 3:00 to 4:00.

International Holocaust Remembrance Day is to remember the six million Jews murdered during the Holocaust, alongside the millions of other people killed under N**i persecution of many different groups and during more recent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur. January 27 marks the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest N**i death camp, in 1945.

"The violence of exclusion began with disinformation and hate speech that lent support to systemic injustice, discrimination, and marginalization and ended with genocidal killing. The theme reminds us of our responsibility to respond with humanity to the victims of atrocity crimes, to counter hate speech, antisemitism, Holocaust distortion and denial, and prejudice – to do all we can to prevent genocide." - the UN Holocaust Memorial Ceremony.

What happens in a typical week at the Academy of Thought and Industry? Here is a rundown of activities at ATI Chantilly’s Middle School:

📖 This week in Language, students continued to read the novel Chains. We learned about perspective and how there are many different perspectives that the story can take and discussed how Isabel’s perspective is different than the readers’ because we have more historical insight into what has happened in the past. Additionally, we worked on vocabulary terms to support our reading of the novel.

📜 This week in History, students wrapped up their mini-unit on the Constitution by analyzing the document's timeline and by drafting and creating their own personal Constitution. Parents can see these examples of student work in “Altitude,” our online workspace.

🌪️ We developed and used our “Gotta-Have-It” Checklist in Science to test and revise a thunderstorm simulation. We used these tools to consider how temperature, humidity, and other conditions produce larger and smaller storms. We also tried to lift or suspend different objects with air blown upward, and we recorded the weight of different objects and the amount of force registered when air is blown toward or away from a digital scale.

🧮 In math, some students have started working with decimal operations and reasoning about two different strategies for dividing fractions. Others have started comparing fractions, decimals, and percentages to solve equations.

ATI Virtual School High School students have been hard at work during Career Weeks, learning what it means to work as a play director, run a top restaurant in Chicago, teach online, use rendering software to design housing units and so much more! Here is a sneak peek from some of their experiences!

As we begin the new year at ATI, we challenge our student body to refine their thoughts, cultivate good habits, and enhance their personalities. Here are some great ideas from our Head of School at ATI Hollywood Beach:

Take time to improve yourself by improving your performance in both academics and personal goals.

Stop procrastinating. This is one of the most challenging habits to avoid. If we start completing all our tasks on time, we can improve everything we do!

Learn a new language. This year, learn a new language (and culture) and see your world open up.

Be kind to everyone: There is no better habit than loving others.

Open to all middle and high school students:

Online Class - Scientific Inaccuracies of Hollywood - Starts January 16!

ATI Guide: Jeremy Beach

In this science elective, those types of questions will be asked, analyzed and discussed. Scientific inaccuracies in Hollywood movies have been around since the dawn of movies; sometimes intentionally to add dramatic effect and sometimes unintentionally. We will watch movies like: Jurassic Park, The Day After Tomorrow, Star Wars, and others to question the scientific possibilities in the movies. Is it conceivable to bring dinosaurs back from extinction? Can climate change cause an ice age? Is it viable to build a lightsaber?

These questions and more will be considered in this fun and engaging scientific adventure. You will learn about science in this class, but you will also gain valuable life skills like: thinking critically and creatively, articulating an argument based on research and the ability to critique fallacies.

Cost (for non-ATI students): $375 per quarter-long course (10 weeks).

Includes two synchronous sessions per week, individual feedback, assignments, and resources!
