For 2026 Scottsburg High School graduate Kailyn Gibson, years of hard work, dedication, and a love for agriculture came together for one unforgettable finish.

Throughout high school, Kailyn was involved in FFA and a 10-year journey with Scott County 4-H. With the support and involvement of her parents, Kailyn developed a passion for showing cattle and the agriculture industry that extended well beyond the classroom.

She had the opportunity to build on that passion through an internship with Nierman Cattle Company, gaining valuable hands-on experience and connecting her education with an industry she loves.

Then, Kailyn capped off her final year of 4-H in a big way. At the 2026 Indiana State Fair, Kailyn and her steer, TJ, earned the title of Champion Slick Steer, securing a place in the prestigious Grand Drive, known as “The Greatest Show on Dirt.”

Kailyn’s story is a great example of what can happen when a student’s interests are supported by family, school, and community partners. From FFA and 4-H to career-connected learning and the Indiana State Fair, she has turned her passion into experiences that will continue to shape what comes next.

Discover Your Path to a Brighter Future, just like Kailyn, at SCSD2!

What an honor for these students!

Students from all over the world had the opportunity to send in comments that could potentially be published in Tom Rogers' latest edition of Eleven in honor of the 25th anniversary of 9/11. These five students at SMS were chosen to be included in that copy of Eleven.

Pictured are Jovie Foster, Aria Case, Braxton Hunefeld, Noi Thomas, and Eva Kern.

What an exciting opportunity! We are so proud of them!

Every elementary improved. 170 of 183 students proficient. 92.9% districtwide across four elementary schools.

A 92.9% IREAD-3 proficiency rate doesn't happen in third grade alone.

It begins at home with families reading aloud. It grows in preschool-second grade with those first foundational skills, and it continues through years of great teaching, intervention, practice, encouragement, and hard work. It takes dedication to strong systems and research-based instruction!

To our families, teachers, interventionists, tutors, administration, instructional aides, support staff, and especially our students: THANK YOU! Let's keep up the great work and see that % continue to increase!
