What does good emergency dispatch look like?

Dr. Jeff Clawson, the Father of Emergency Dispatch, has a surprisingly straightforward answer:

"The basic rationale for safe and effective EMD is to send the right thing, with the right crew, in the right way (lights-and-siren versus routine) to the right place, and at the right time."

The goal isn’t to send the same response to each call. Or even to send the fastest response.

No. It’s to send the right response.

That’s why using a protocol is so important. It uses evidence to help the Emergency
Dispatcher determine what the right response is. Every time. For every caller.
