Great turnout at the Jackson County Cattlemen's Field Day! Dr. Soren Rodning, Extension Veterinarian, brought an informative update about New World Screw Worm and Asian Longhorned Tick. Additionally, he went over vaccine management and administration. We then had a live demonstration of working cattle through the chute. Appreciate Alabama Farm Credit for sponsoring the meal. Also, thank you to Jackson Farmers Coop for donating the use of cattle panels for the live demonstration and Jackson County Fair for the use of the fairgrounds.

There will be a Clean Day pickup on Nov. 3, 2026 in Jackson County. This event is open to Farmers, Pesticide Applicators & Dealers, Pest Control Operators and Nurseries in Jackson County and surrounding counties. Further information and the registration form about the Clean Up Day can be received from the Jackson County Extension Office or Jackson County Solid Waste. Deadline to sign up is October 30, 2026.
This program will allow you, at no cost, to bring up to 1,000 pounds of unwanted pesticides for safe and environmentally sound disposal.
Materials that WILL be accepted include both known and unidentifiable pesticide waste, such as insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, and other products such as defoliants, adjuvants and growth retardants.
Products NOT accepted include but are not limited to the following: explosives or ordinance materials, compressed gas cylinders, petroleum products (motor oil), paints, tires, medical waste, radioactive materials, dioxin precursors or seeds.
