MIke "Dingus" McKee was truly popular among the community and the college as he supported the Cougars in many ways from playing in the Cougar Golf Classic (and his team won six of seven tournaments from 2014-2021) to his family serving as a softball host family. He helped out anyway he could not only at WNCC but all over the area.

His passing leaves a void in the community but so many people remember Dingus and what he meant. His memorial service is slated for Sunday, May 31 at Weborg Center in Gering.

In my summer athletic newsletter, I am going to write a tribute to him so if any of his former dorm kids or coaches have anything they want to say about Dingus, post below or text Mark at 308-631-0459 for the tribute piece. In the meantime, here are a few photos I found of him with WNCC Cougar activities as well as his dorm daughter Christina Nelson sending me some photos.

RIP Dingus and go say hi to my dad up there and you two can pitch against each other once again like you used to for you guy's slowpitch teams in the late 80s and 90s.

WNCC will be holding three Volleyball Team Camps this June. These camps are for teams so if teams are interested, please sign up. Payment is per player on a team with a minimum of seven players on a team. The team camps will be June 14-15 for Varsity; June 16-17 for Jayvee, and June 18 for Middle School.

The WNCC volleyball individual camps are set and there will be four individual skill camps this summer with a Little Cougars Camp (June 19-20); Middle School All-Skills Camp (June 22-23); High School Blocking Camp (June 24); and a High School Serving Camp (June 25).

The WNCC baseball team went 1-1 in the first day of the Region IX tournament in Pueble, Colorado, on Thursday. WNCC fell 5-3 to Otero in the first game and then won an 8-6 elimination game against Luna in the nightcap. WNCC will play Friday at 5 p.m. in another elimination game.
