As we approach our Centennial year, we are creating a coffee table book to celebrate the rich history of Scottsbluff Junior College, Nebraska Western College, and WNCC, and we would love your help.

If you or your family have photos from the early years, especially the 1930s and 1940s, we invite you to share them with us. These images will help tell the story of our college and the lives it has shaped.

We are also collecting memorabilia to display during the 2026–27 academic year. Items will be handled with care and returned once the display concludes.

This photo from around 2005 captures two familiar faces who dedicated much of their lives to Western Nebraska Community College: Coral Richards and Kent Harvey.

Between them, they gave nearly a century of service to WNCC. While they held different roles, they shared a deep belief in the college and the opportunities it provided for students across western Nebraska.

Coral Richards is a proud alumna who spent 58 years serving WNCC. She became one of the college's most recognizable and respected advocates. Through decades of growth and change, she remained committed to the institution and the people it served. Her passion for WNCC never faded, and her influence can still be felt throughout the college today.

Kent Harvey spent 38 years in the teaching field and helped many students find their path. He witnessed many important moments in the college's history, but what mattered most to him was the success of his students. Former students often remember him not only as an instructor, but as someone who genuinely cared about their future.

Looking at this photo, it is easy to see more than two longtime employees. It is a snapshot of the people who helped build the culture of WNCC through hard work, dedication, and a genuine love for the college. They invested their time, talents, and hearts into making WNCC a place where students could succeed.

Their legacy continues through the work of the WNCC Foundation. Every scholarship awarded, every student supported, and every opportunity created reflects the same belief that Coral and Kent carried throughout their years at the college: that education has the power to change lives.

Some people leave behind memories. Others leave behind a lasting impact. Coral Richards and Kent Harvey did both.

We’re excited to welcome Brandon Davenport to the WNCC Foundation as our new Development Director.

A WNCC alum born and raised in Scottsbluff, Brandon has a personal connection to the college and a strong appreciation for the role it plays in expanding access to education across the region. He brings a background in higher education, with experience supporting fundraising efforts, building relationships, and connecting donors with opportunities to make a meaningful difference.

Brandon joins us after nearly five years with Chadron State Foundation where he served as Development Officer and then Director of Annual Giving.

“It’s a privilege to have served the students at Chadron State College and now the students of WNCC. Both institutions hold a special place in my heart. It was the education and mentorship I received at CSC and WNCC that made it possible for me to be where I’m at today.”

After earning his associate degree in Journalism at WNCC, Brandon went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in Communication at CSC.

In his role at the foundation, Brandon will work closely with donors and supporters of the college to build relationships across the WNCC community to support programs, faculty, and students attending all our campuses.

“I believe wholeheartedly in the value of higher education. I know firsthand the lifechanging power of community colleges, how essential scholarships are, and the vital role donors play in providing them. I’m eager to continue to rally and grow our community’s investment in creating access to higher education and ensuring the students of WNCC have every opportunity to succeed.”
